I picked this book up on a vacation when I was young and impressionable. I bought it because I liked the cover. I don't know who designed that cover, but I'm so thankful they got me onto Chabon: now one of my favourite contemporary writers.

I read this when it was first published in 1988. Had I known he would become such a renowned writer I would have paid closer attention. At the time, it was just another gay coming of age story and I was looking for the dirty parts. Ah, youth. Anyway, it made no impression.
