• Poppy North: Poppy has been ignoring the fact that she's been feeling unwell for quite sometime. When the pain becomes more intense, her family force her to get herself checked out at the hospital. She and her family are horrified to learn that she is suffering from a terminal illness and only has weeks to live. Poppy has red curly hair and vibrant green eyes. She's really short and kind of pixie like.
• James Rasmussen: Poppy's best friend since kindergarten, he is devastated to learn about Poppy's illness. James is sort of a playboy
• Phillip North: Poppy's twin brother has always been suspicious of James' true nature. Will he help Poppy to make a life altering decision? Philip is also the Golden Boy. With the golden looks, he is tall and blond.
• Ash: James' cousin and a threat to James and Poppy's new life should he reveal to the Night World society of James' breach of their rules.
• Leah: Leah is Ash's cousin. She is considered the 'nice' witch.
• Thea: A witch that Ash and Poppy encounter.
• Blaise: Thea's cousin and another witch that Ash and Poppy encounter while she's with Thea.

• “You know, you've never really cared about anyone," he said. "But someday you will, and it's going tohurt. It's going to hurt-a lot.”

• The Night World: It's a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other creatures of darkness. The Night World laws say it's okay to hunt humans. It's okay to toy with their hearts, it's even okay to kill them. There are only two things you can't do with them. 1) Never let them find out the Night World exists. 2) Never fall in love with one of them.
