David Sedaris became a star autobiographer on public radio, onstage in New York, and on bestseller lists, mostly on the strength of "SantaLand Diaries," a scathing, hilarious account of his stint as a Christmas elf at Macy's. 50 Book Challenge! 2549 books / 2343 members / 12941 posts When asked about the new Amazon Kindle product, Steve Jobs CEO of Apple computer had this to say:

“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore,” he said. “Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”

Welcome to the the 50 Book Challenge, where we fly in the face of Steve Jobs.

Basically .... the challenge is to read 50 books in one year. OR ... establish a goal for yourself more or less, it's up to you, just because we say 50 books doesn't mean that has to be your goal too.

Start a thread, WITH YOUR NAME IN THE SUBJECT OF YOUR ORIGINAL POST, and log your books. It is a very good idea to bookmark (when in your post, add it to your internet browser's favorites) your post for easy location for future updates. Things move quickly around here.

If you haven't been keeping track of the books you've read, start when you join.

Thanks for being here and have fun. If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to contact me.

If not, well browse my favourite books and hope you find something fun to read.

Why 42?
For one, 42 is larger than 41. It is also the ultimate answer to life, universe and everything (you must read Douglas Adams' Hitchhkiers Guide to th Galaxy - don't even think about watching the movie!)

There are no rules. No genre restrictions.

Think *quality* not quantity.

Expand your mind.
Recommend selective, piognant, funny, brilliant books.
Feel, think, ponder, hate and love.
Find Quan.

I have always thought that a good laugh is , well, a good laugh!! Nothing more, nothing less. Laughter is the catalyst that can turn a bad day into good. And best of all, humor is all a matter of perception. What's slapstick for me can be cheesy for you (most likely, I can hear my friends say !!) :)

This is a group dedicated to the funniest books of all times. These can include books that were meant to be funny, and ones that were not meant to be, but the absurdity of the context have made it out that ways. Even a funny quote goes. Sarcasms also works!!!

Add your book to the shelf, give a review, recommend one or simply browse through and add it to your TBR list.

Laugh it out friends!

We'll discuss the latest in pop culture media and have a good time. The group promises to be a chock full of hoot and a lil bit of nany. Possibly even legend...wait for it...ary.
