At the end of the book Hana writes Clara telling of how her father died. I am wondering if part of Hana's refusal to leave the English Patient has anything to do with her feelings towards not being able to help her father while he lay dying by himself from his burn wounds?

I can't add anything worthy/useful/new to what's already been said about this gripping novel. This is a true Booker Winnner, one of the best I've read so far..

This book is one of my favorites. The movie is quite good, (I love Ralph Fiennes!) and although it does not have the same depth that the book has, I would recommend the movie. You can get lost in both of them!
