Didn’t Like It

I've always been intreguied by this story.
I also wanted to read the book before I saw the movie, but instead of noticing the beauty in both (which I will admit there is pletny of,) I felt a shadow of saddness looming over me.

I understand that a book based in wars, and surronded with characters with conflicting undertones, that thsi setss up a plot with lots of drama.

But instead of being swept into the world of this book, I was swept into the emotions, which were...

    At the end of the book Hana writes Clara telling of how her father died. I am wondering if part of Hana's refusal to leave the English Patient has anything to do with her feelings towards not being able to help her father while he lay dying by himself from his burn wounds?
