This is not only a marvelous and unusual story and character study but the story of its writing and publishing is pretty amazing. I wonder if the protagonist was a portrait of the author.

A unique read is a great way to describe this book. I'm very picky about satire/absurd fiction and can't get into a lot of it. But this book really captivated me and kept me going most of the way through. I had the opposite experience that Rosa R did. I enjoyed the first 400 pages, but ran out of steam during the last 30.

An odd look into a bunch of characters from one of the most unique citites in America. I read this about a month before I went to New Orleans, and walking around the French Quarter, it made the book seem all the more real.

This book is such a unique read. The humor throughout is timeless and appeals to anyone. It's a shame John Kennedy Toole put an end to the creativity. Anyone read anything similar or with the same kind of humor?

I loved Miss Trixie (Carol Burnnet type). When I'm an old fart, I'm going to call everyone Gloria and demand a ham or was it a turkey?

You know who would have been perfect for the role: the great silent film star, Oliver Hardy. Or Wimpy from the Popeye cartoons. It has to be somebody with absolutely NO manic energy and not winking at the camera on the side.
