One of the first books I read as a teenager. Probably was a bit young, but cool book.

Felt no connection to any of these characters and the plot was a snoozer but I read to the last page so two stars vs 1.

The author of Leviathan returns with a dazzling, picaresque, new novel in which Walter Claireborne Rawley, now an octogenarian, recounts his extraordinary vaudevillian adventures as "Walt the Wonder Boy" in 1924.

Amazing story of a boy who achieved antigravity.

This remains my favourite Paul Auster, absolutely amazing read. Definitely falls into the category of "unputdownable"

A fascinating Americana yarn on growing up in Depression-Era America. The story of Walt the Wonder Boy is the story of America itself; Walt was poor, learned to thrive with the help of immigrants and not-quite-citizens, suffered many disasters along the way and then, well, I won't ruin the rest for you. What you will find is a book that delivers on every sense. Auster, ever the master of language, creates passages which make you taste, smell and see the America of Walt the Wonder Boy. A definite read.

This is a great story and quite thought-provoking, without being overly intellectual. Auster seems to have the knack of telling someone's story in a way which keeps the reader engaged and this narrator's ambiguous relatoinship with ethics lends an element of realism to the story without being depressing.
All in all, a nice light, quick enjoyable read.
