A little less mystical and perhaps more corporeal than the other Murakami books I've read, it was still extremely satisfying. I personally identified a great deal with the main character in his analysis, seriousness, and concern of the world. I always enjoy Murakami's references to other literature and music, in this book - The Great Gatsby, Hesse's Beneath the Wheel, The Beatles, Bach etc.
