The story sprawls its way from the the Rape of Nanking to modern TV culture. It's very complicated and requires multiple readings for everything to soak in. ”

Sometimes I think the best way to read any of his work is to be slightly out of one's mind with the flu or buzzed on one's favorite alcoholic beverage because he asks you to bend your mind and accept such odd things that his written is work is like a very strange Picasso painting. Everything I've read by this author becomes something I revisit. I've been re-reading Wind Up Bird for seven years. ”

I just put it down after what feels like months of reading it. It's dreamy and interesting, but slow and I had a hard time getting through very much of it at a time. I suppose I was waiting for it to really click and make sense in the end, but it ended in the same loose way that it progressed through the entire book. ”
