Absolutely hated the part about the pony (and everything Homer and Melony do) AND I find it to be quite a slow read, which isn't really encouraging me to read on.”

“This novel is in the same league as Steinbeck's East of Eden. Not that the plots or characters were similar, but Irving's careful, in-depth character developement is so similar to Steinbecks it's uncanny. The characters are endearing and stay with you. There is no good guy, no bad guy, just people being nothing more than what their life's circumstances would dictate...and how different are the "life's circumstances" from on man to the next. This is a great one.”
