  “Jim LaMarche is our favorite illustrator. In this beautiful book he tells the story of a summer with Grandma, river wildlife, and learning the joy of drawing. Very popular book at our house.”

  “A boy named Nicky is dropped off at his grandmother's for the summer by his father. At first, he is not happy about this - grandma has no television, and there are no other children to play with. His mind begins to change as he explores the river on a raft. He starts drawing the wildlife, and his grandmother, who is an artist, encourages him to explore the area physically and to explore his interests mentally.”
