I love love love this book. Eugenides did such an amazing job with the mythology and pain involved in the protagonist's weird journey through puberty. In my top 5 books about incest.

I wouldn't characterize it as "a book about incest". While that does occur in the story, it is not even close to the being the central theme. The book is about searching for identity and belonging. I would encourage readers to give it a chance- it is a great read!

I totally agree with you Aleisha K - this is not a book about incest. I've read it twice and I see it as a work about growth and identity. The underlying theme with the silkworms and cocoons symbolizes the transitions we go through as we move from a child into adulthood. Lefty represents this as well. This is one of the best books ever. Definitely give it a chance.
