The Poisonwood Bible is for everyone who's ever wished the whole planet were white-skinned and Christian and holding democratic elections, and sincerely believed that this would solve all of everybody's problems. For everyone who's ever thought that we rich nations have everything to...

Jill's "I tried to love you" book. Can't get past the first few sentences. Everyone tried to tell her get past the first few pages. She may try.

Breathless. This book left me breathless. It's a book that stays with you, it's both hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

I think I read this in high school or early college. I loved it so much. And I still really do. A really wonderful story about the women in a missionary family in the Belgium Congo in the 1950s. Very complex and interesting plot with awesome character development.

Just couldn't get into it and I don't blame the writing or the story. This story is just too close to home. My mom was your typical Portuguese colonists daughter and so we grew up with stories of her as a child sitting around tribal fires, having bushbabies for pets and so on. This book was just more of the same, it didn't feel original to me and so I didn't finish it

Gritty and unexpected, this novel reads like a memoir. I couldn't put it down! Made me want to go to Africa. I will definitely give this another read.
