Ed Lazar, a CPA, was murdered in 1975 after becoming entangled in shady Arizona real estate deals. His son, Zachary Lazar was only 6 at the time. Now over 40 years later, Zach writes a book that, in a somewhat frustrating manner, blends fact with fiction in an attempt to reconstruct the events leading up to his father’s murder.

The author describes the book as "a kind of conjuration” (p. 52). I found it baffling that the author went into so much detail about things that could not be known, such as candy wrappers littering the card tables (p 204), people fiddling with toothpicks or ball point pens (p. 204), a person unclasping their hands and tapping the table (p 179), scrambled eggs sticking to skillets in a sink (p 194), leaving a napkin-wrapped drink on someone's half-cleared table (p 116), a tall blue glass beaded with condensation (p 42), yet this huge "Ponzi scheme" is left virtually undescribed because it is complex, an "abstraction upon abstraction, world without end" (p 29).
