THE FLASH-FLASH-FLASH OF THE CAMERA STROBES WAS NEARLY BLINDING as I rose to my feet, buttoned my jacket (my "incongruous-from-the -beginning" mix of a Swiss-German upbringing coupled with my decade of service in the United States Marine Corps taught me that a gentleman always buttons his suit coat upon standing), and posed for a picture I most certainly did not want to pose for.
