This book was nowhere near as good as "The Raven Prince". It was not horrible as a stand alone, but if compared with her first one this one fell way short for me. This one falls somewhere between 3 and four stars. One feature I loved in "The Raven Prince" was the story that you read during each chapter beginning. This one has a story but it is told by Georgina and I found the story lacking and hard for me to care about. I did however like the characters and the main story itself. I think this is a series I would suggest read books in between so you don't have the high expectations I had. I am still a fan of Mrs. Hoyt's writing and find her a wonderful author. I just feel she set a high bar with "The Raven Prince" and maybe for that reason no book following in its footsteps would have been good enough.

Ahhh... this is one is definitely my kind of book! Once again, Elizabeth Hoyt delivers in this second installment of her much acclaimed Princes Trilogy. This book is better than The Serpent Prince, the third book which I mistakenly read first, although I believed that among the three, The Raven Prince is the best! Anyway, The Leopard Prince tells the story of Henry "Harry" Pye, a land steward of Woldsly Manor and Lady Georgina Maitland, daughter of an earl and the owner of the manor. Georgina has been employing Harry for months and her treatment of him is just like how she treats everyone under her employ: like a chair! As an aristocrat, she treats her staff like an inanimate object. She's not being heartless ofcourse, but that's how the way it is!

But everything changed when an accident occurred while she and Harry is riding to her manor that she realized that Harry Pye is a man. Harry is an ordinary-looking man who always wears brown from head to toe but Georgina can't deny her attraction to him that she began to think of having an affair with him. Will she give in to her desires? Can Harry, who is also attracted to her, resist the urge to bed him and claim his as his woman? Can they challenge society and risk losing their reputation? Can they?

I'm not giving away that much but I can assure you that there are plenty of very steamy scenes in this book. Harry and Georgina weren't described as handsome and beautiful but it's ok, it makes them more relatable. It's also much lighter than the two books in the trilogy but it still has a dark aspect, especially when you learned about Harry's past and his age-old feud with the evil Lord Granville of the nearby estate. Georgina and Harry are also entangled in a nasty sheep-poisoning case that is endangering the livelihood of the tenants of Lord Granville. Everyone is suspecting Harry of committing the crime due to his hatred of Lord Granville.

The funny moments in this book can be found between Georgina and her three younger brothers who came to her rescue after their youngest, Violet warned them about their eldest sister's involvement with the land steward. All of them went to Georgina one after the other and their care towards their sister is quite obvious because of that. Violet also has a dark, embarrassing secret that I find her interference with her sister's life hypocritical. There was also a brief cameo of my favorite Hoyt hero, Edward de Raaf, 5th Earl of Swartingham and his meeting with the Maitland brothers is one of the funniest scenes in the book! It's also amazing to read about Georgina inheriting a huge manor from her aunt... something rare for a woman during that period. Also, the tale of the Leopard Prince added to the allure of this amazing book.

Read The Leopard Prince. A romance novel set during the Georgian Period in England. Writer Elizabeth Hoyt gave another outstanding story that will make her readers crave for more!

I read this book after several online friends recommended it to me along with the other two books in this trilogy by Elizabeth Hoyt. This is book two in that trilogy and to date the only book I have read by her. I found that it was pretty enjoyable but for me it was easy to put down. I found that I was ok with setting it down to watch TV or surf the net. The book was not a bad book. I was and still am torn as to rating it. I settle with a 3.5 stars.

    The good points.....

A very interesting twist on a typical historical romance theme. A rich titled individual who falls in love with a servant. In this case the woman is the titled individual and the man is the lowly land steward. I have never read a book where this has happened and enjoyed it no matter how unlikely the actual events could have happened.

Likable characters. Harry is low born but proud. He is a proud man with no disillusions as to his place in life or society. Many of the secondary characters were also interesting. Georgina's brothers were among those characters that I really wanted to know better but didn't get the chance. Her brothers are the kind of men who really should be the heroes in their own books.

An interesting fairy tale interwoven with the main plot. Georgina tells a tale in pieces throughout the book to Harry that I found myself wanting to hear more about. When George would tell a little bit of the story and stop I really wanted her to get on with it and finish the tale but found that by having her character tell the story in this way Hoyt managed to push her own story along nicely.

    What I didn't like....

Georgina. I know it might be a little harsh but I found her character a little annoying. When she talked she almost sounded flighty and self absorbed. Her actions were completely wrong for the time period and what a lady of good breeding should do. I can see an older widow blowing off society's whispers to take whomever she wanted as a lover but a virgin under the age of 30 seemed almost absurd to me.

The mystery. Many times a good historical romance has a bit of a mystery to carry the story along. I generally like this type of plot but for some reason when Harry finds himself being blamed for poisoning some sheep belonging to a neighbor of George's I just couldn't see why everyone believed him guilty. Hoyt did weave the reasons into the story but I just couldn't believe them hook, line and sinker.

Over all I would say this was a book that was ok. A decent way to introduce myself to Hoyt's writing but not one that I could honestly recommend as more then to say one should read it because they read the other books in the trilogy.

Another unexpected story from Ms Hoyt. Very good read =D

Book 2 in the Princes trilogy:
"Wealthy Lady Georgina Maitland doesn't want a husband, though she could use a good stewart to run her estates. One look at Harry Pye, and Georgina knows she's not just dealing with a servant, but a man.
Harry has known many aristocrats - including one particular nobleman who is his sworn enemy. But Harry has never met a beautiful lady so independent, uninhibited, and eager to be in his arms.
Still, it's impossible to conduct a discreet liaison when poisoned sheep, murdered villagers, and an enraged magistrate have the country in an uproar. The locals blame Harry for everything. Soon it's all Georgina can do to keep her head above water and Harry's out of the noose... without missing another night of love."

Elizabeth Hoyt is certainly an author to watch! Her writing is charming, funny, emotional and she is supremely talented at writing a love scene. Whew! This book hooked me right away and didn't let go. One complaint -- "prick"? Blech. Please don't call it that. It's almost worse than man-root. LOL!
