A great book for parents, this is an activist's guide on how to deal with too much homework and its detrimental effects. The authors present this in an easy-to-read narrative style with many anecdotes and case studies. The book also gives many tools for parents to use when confronting school...

I read this as a teacher. I think that all teachers should read this. I am changing grades this year and am glad I read this book, as it reinforces my belief that less is more. I am hoping to get other staff member to read this book as well to possibly change our policy and minds about the types/amounts of homework colleagues give out.

It has merit. Homework is starting in kindergarten in some schools. It gives many examples and with the busy family today, kids need time to just be kids and play. Homeschoolers never do homework, after class time. The book could report more research pro and con.

Presents an aggressive argument against the need for homework.

This is a great book in that it tells you how to deal with teachers, administration etc in helping your child to reduce the amount of homework they get. It also tells you how to distinguish between homework that is valid and helps your child to move forward and busywork which just takes time away from you and your child. This book is great in that it doesn't stop there but helps the parent with strategies in reducing the amount of homework and also in helping to work with the teacher in giving homework that will help to advance the studies of your child within the school. If you are tired of the "No Child Left Behind" lie that has been instrumental in destroying the educational aspects of schools, including taking away music and arts. You should grab a copy of this book and make sure that you give one away to a teacher and parent at your child's school.

A great book for parents, this is an activist's guide on how to deal with too much homework and its detrimental effects. The authors present this in an easy-to-read narrative style with many anecdotes and case studies. The book also gives many tools for parents to use when confronting school boards, educators and others. There is a good bibliography but this is not a book for serious research. I would recommend this as a first read on the subject.
