My mom read this and wanted me to read it. It definitely wasn't the normal book I would pick up and was a story based around the famous painting of a girl with just a single pearl earring showing...they've actually made a movie out of it too. It wasn't all that great, but I didn't have a...

It was a fairly easy and quick read- took me about 3-4 hours total. I'm not too sure why it's so hyped though- it's average to me.

I liked Tracy Chevalier's writing style, but I wasn't extremely interested in the plot. Interesting concept, I guess, taking a painting and then creating the story around how it came to be. There were, of course, morally bankrupt characters and then the people that I liked at first ended up not being so great... Griet included.

My mom read this and wanted me to read it. It definitely wasn't the normal book I would pick up and was a story based around the famous painting of a girl with just a single pearl earring showing...they've actually made a movie out of it too. It wasn't all that great, but I didn't have a painful time reading it. It was about a girl who was sold by her family to work as a maid in the home of a painter and his family. She ends up having a pretty close relationship with the painter and it's all about her daily work & the things that go on with the family / painter / outsiders. Nothing riveting.

I didn't think this book was very special. It was strange, because it was set during the 1600s and when people from that time period wrote books, they were very detailed and over the top. I felt this book was too simple, and not in a good way. It was very cut and dry and to the point. I don't mind it with most books, but with a book set during this time period it doesn't really fit.

Really good book....the movie with Scarlett Johansson and Colin Firth is really good too. It followed the book fairly closely.
