At Molly's school, they are having a contest to see who can think of the best idea for the war effort. The boys and girls in Molly's class divide into two groups and think of ideas. Alison, a girl in their class, says that they could knit socks for soldiers. They are going to have a knitting bee to work on them. But Molly doesn't think that it's a good idea because she knows that it takes ages to knit a sock and it's very difficult. So she, Linda, and Susan decide to go around and collect bottle caps. But they are caught by Alison's mom and they have to go to the knitting bee. During it, they start having problems, and because they have squares, Molly says that they should knit a blanket because her father says that they need blankets in the hospitals. So they knit a blanket and, with a lot more bottle caps, they win the contest.
