“THIS BOOK SUCKED! HILLBILLY LANGUAGE IS NOT UNDERSTANDABLE!”
“This is one of my all time favorite books. I have a classic edition and I LOVE the illustrations! It has everything; hardship, personal sacrifice, beauty, nature, odd characters, interesting language. I feel every one should read it as a young person. The depth of feeling it prompts is one of the reasons I love to read.”
“Is there another version of this? only 5 people have this on their shelf”
“Is this a good read for high schoolers?Would this book interest high schoolers? what ages enjoy this book?”
“I have used it with freshmen as an example of a "coming of age" story. They were on to me though, many of them having read Older Yeller or A Day No Pigs would die. Inevitably somebody would ask in a fearful tone, "Is this like the yeller dog story, Mrs. T.?" It is well written and appropriate, I think,”
“The southern dialect takes a bit of getting used to for some students, but yes, should absolutely be required reading. Heartbreakingly beautiful novel. ”
“The answer to your question, of course, depends to a large degree on the reader. A good book--and this is one--generally transcends age barriers, at least for the seasoned reader, who may well be quite young..For my part, I believe a high school student with some sensitivity would enjoy it, as "weradi" and I did, and, best of all, benefit from having read it.”
“I read it in 9th grade, I think, and recall loving it, but thought myself beyond it at that time. I think it'sbest for middle schoolers.”
