WOW! What a difference the years make. I don't remember liking this book when I first had to read it, which was probably in high school. (And if you can do the math, yes folks, that was quite a few years ago - almost 20!)

I picked up this story yesterday since the paperback I was going...

The Call of the Wild is frequently presented as a children’s story because the protagonist is a dog, but it is violent and bleak in many areas.

Buck, half Saint Bernard and half sheepdog, lives a pampered life on a judge’s estate in California. When he is kidnapped by dog...

I have to say this is one of the most violent stories I've ever read. I find it hard to understand why kids in grades lower than high school must read this particular 'classic'.

I have just reed the book Call of The Wild which wa written by Jack London. And it was about a dog named Buck. Who had to face many hardships while trying to become asled dog and travelling up north.Well he lived on a nice little house which was owned by a judge. And one day when Buck was out playing these men put buck in a bag and knocked him out.And the next thing that he knew was that he was in a crate by a lot of other dogs. and ther is wher he will srart his training to become a sleddog. But this was hard for buck because Buck was use to just lying around all day. And sometimes going out hunting but now he must go out and face this cold desolet place and pull a sled at the same time. But now it is time for Buck to finaly start his trip to the north into Canada. By this time Buck was ready for his journey up north. but about half of the way his first owner had decided that all of the dogs look worn out so they sold the dogs to to some city slickers who had decided to buy the dogs but the only thing that was a problem is that those people who just bought them they have no idea what they doing. like they would put tons of cans with there luggage and a lot of plates which had totaly over loaded the sled but the dogs just kept pushing on forward. un til they ran into this guy called John Thorton who was very anry with the city slickers because the had no idea what they were doing and they were killing the those dogs but by that time there wasn't many dogs left. But when they stop and asked John something and then they were going to go on there way. well buck had layed down but he did not get up. so the man was going to bet hom with a club but John had stoped him and toook Buck. Then city people had taken off but right befor they left John had told them to watch out for the river because it was spring and the ice was melting. Well they went Anyway and they had sank in the river. Then John had help Buck buck back to health.by the time Buck was back to health he wa going out hunting. But one day when he came back to the camp John was dead. the indians had got him but then buckwent and killed alll of the indians (there was about 5 of them)and then buck Ran off into the woods and no one ever saw him again.

I think that it was interesting because of the fact that it is written from the viewpoint of a dog

Buck is a great dog, he was treated like a king but unfortunately he got stolen to dog slavery. Buck was treated very bad and he has been through many adventure in his life. He is a very big strong and brave dog he is a very good leader. He became a leader of a sled dog team. The team changed the driver,he is bad drivers and end up killing everyone, including themselves. Fortunately, Buck is saved by a nice man name John Thronton. John Thronton became his best owner and Buck loved him. Buck saved his life several times. John Thronton was killed byYeehad tribe.

The Call of The Wild, written by Jack London is a great fiction book. It is famous, and it is even called "the greatest American literature book in history."I like this book, because it talks about animals-which I like a lot- and especially how Buck (the main character) changes throughout the journal.

    Call of the Wild
    By: Jack London

Jack London wrote this book for entertainment purposes. Jack is very good at writing for entertainment. He really did not write this novel to prove anything. The setting of this novel takes place up north towards Alaska and in Canada during the time of the California Gold Rush. The California Gold Rush began on January 24, 1848, when gold was discovered by James Wilson Marshall in Coloma, California. It ended in 1855.

Buck is a spoiled dog who lives in California and sits around and does nothing. Then two people come in the middle of the night and steal him. They put him on a boat and ship him to Dyea, Alaska. He was sold as a sled dog and was put with many vicious dogs. Rather than respecting each other, these dogs know only to defend themselves against each other by violence, or to feel the beat of a human's club or whip when they do not behave properly. This was known as “The Law of Club and Fang.” Buck learns this law after Perrault and Francois both beat him after buck tries to attack them. Then a pack of strays comes and attacks the camp and they hurt Pike, Sol-leks, and Dub and they eat all of their food. Then Perrault sells the dogs to Mercedes. Mercedes soon gives up on the dogs and sells them after Buck kills one of the sled dogs. Buck goes to John Thornton. Buck gets well rested and his muscles and wounds heal because of Thornton. Thornton also has two other dogs named Skeet and Nig. Buck gets a strange feeling that he is a wild dog. Then the Yeehats attack the camp and kill everyone except Buck. Buck ends up killing them and becoming wild.

The book that Jack London wrote was very good at entertaining me. It was not that hard to understand and it did not take forever to read. If you want an entertaining book, you should read this book.

This is the story of Buck the dog (told from his perspective, mostly) and his Klondike adventures during the early Alaskan gold rush years. The story is interesting and beautifully written, which surprised me. It seemed very realistic for its time and place and unfortunately the animal abuse and violence seemed realistic too and was a bit hard to take at times. Still, there was a very natural and spiritual aspect to it that greatly appealed to me.
