I loved reading and listening to this book. It was exciting and sad and heroic all at the same time. Jack London did an excellent job on this book. I continually read this book over and over.

The Call of the Wild is frequently presented as a children’s story because the protagonist is a dog, but it is violent and bleak in many areas.

Buck, half Saint Bernard and half sheepdog, lives a pampered life on a judge’s estate in California. When he is kidnapped by dog traders, he needs to learn to survive as a sled dog in the North.

One of the most striking aspects of The Call of the Wild is that the human characters are all less developed than Buck....

    That's the way it is with these beautiful 'children's classics' - the older you get the better you love them. When you can no longer qualify as a child (and probably couldn't for decades..) that's when you finally enter the book as if for the first time, and find it knew you all along.....
