  • Jacinda Jones: A 16 year old draki (descended from dragons) who can breathe fire. The only draki who can breathe fire in her pride, promised to Cassian. She's in love with Will.
  • Tamra Jones: Jacinda's twin sister, who never 'manifested' - never developed a draki side. Had and might still have a crush on Cassian.
  • Cassian: An 'onyx' draki, son of the head of Jacinda's pride. A childhood friend of Jacinda's before they drifted apart. He intends to marry her.
  • Will Rutledge: A draki hunter who Jacinda develops feelings for. He feels an instant connection to her too, which can only be disastrous for them both.
  • Catherine: A friend of Jacinda's in her new school.
  • Xander Rutledge: Will's cousin, also a draki hunter. Dangerous, and does not have much respect for women.
  • Angus Rutledge: Another cousin of Will's. Xander's brother. A big guy with red hair who doesn't have much to say.
  • Mrs. Hennessey: Landlady of the flat the Jones family stay in, and an unexpected friend to Jacinda.
  • Severin: Cassian's dad, the Pride's alpha. He is described as threatening, and has plans for Jacinda and his son.
  • Jabel: Cassian's aunt.
  • Brooklyn: A girl at Jacinda's school who has a dangerous crush on Will - if any girl tries to flirt with him, she makes their life hell.
  • Azure: Jacinda's friend, a water draki.

  • Draki: A race which is descended from dragons. The draki have the ability to mask their true selves by disguising as humans. Changing appearance from human to draki is called 'manifesting', and conversely 'demanifesting'. There are different types of draki, and each type has different abilities or strengths.
