Dashti, a girl from the mucker (nomadic herding) tribe/class, becomes a lady's maid just in time to be locked up with her mistress in a tower for seven years. In the tower, they battle with rats for their precious food supply, receive wonderful visits from her mistress' desired suitor, and terrifying visits from her mistress' rejected suitor. Story is told through Dashti's lively, poetic diary entries, punctuated by ink drawings and the lyrics to the traditional healing songs she uses to help others. ”
