Ethics is the collected work of some of the most genius philosophers and psychologists from the beginning of the declaration of "ethics." One in particular that I love reading is Thomas Hobbes's piece on "The State of Man." He basically spends the few pages explaining why he people are innately selfish and act in order to push themselves forward.
