Say what you will about Scarlett O'Hara, but there's a reason she caught the imagination of our nation when this novel was published in 1936, during the height of the Great Depression. Scarlett's resilience and determination to make it through the Civil War and Reconstruction struck a cord with struggling Americans. You'll want to slap her for being so stupid about Ashley, and you'll understand Rhett's exasperation with her. And lest yea think that Melanie is too wimpy, keep in mind that...

I understood this book better after watching the movie "CSA". It's a re-writing of history for the purpose of creating sympathy for the south's lost cause.

    I read a review about a book that was going to come out titled I believe "Done Gone with the Wind" and as I recall the Mitchell trust blocked its publication. Has anyone heard any further about this book from the perspective of a slave?
