They are a couple of children that were in love with other people entirely and doing the "my life is over" drama until they bumped into each other on the street. Reading it over the weekend reminded me of how much I disliked the book when I first read it in 7th grade. I thought it was too long and boring. Although this story is supposed to portray a "realistic romance" I thought it was anything but that. To me, nothing Romeo or Juliet do in this book seem realistic. No guy I know, or I have heard of, will scale a wall to see his girlfriend. But, I must admit that William Shakespeare is an amazing author. I do not recommend this book. If you're looking for a "realistic romance" Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostand is your best bet. ”

Most people hate reading about the love, because it's a love that would not actually happen; love at first sight is not real, at least in my opinion. But most people forget that this is fiction. Shakespeare wrote about a love that would not happen in real life. Is that wrong? How is that any worse than writing about wizards and witches attending a magical school in England? Although many characters have flaws, like Romeo's cowardly nature and Juliet's foolish lust, some characters, like Count Paris and Friar Laurence, have sense in them. I feel bad for Paris in the end; he loved Juliet, but she didn't love him back.
All in all, it was a pretty good play. It took a while to decipher everything, even with the sidenotes, but I was able to get through it without utterly loathing it, unlike many of my peers.”
“If you like romance read this, but the thing about you people who like romance, be prepared for depression at the end!”
