I read Marked: A House of Night Novel (Book 1) by P.C Cast and her daughter Kristin Cast. This is THE best book ever and it is the first of a series. It is about a girl named Zoey who is Marked by a Tracker vampyre. The next thing she knows she is at The House of Night (a vampyre school for all fledglings) and is taking classes, such as fencing. Now this is a "normal thing for all people that are Marked but Zoey's Mark is different. She now founds out that the Goddess of Night, Nyx was the one who sent for her to be Marked. She knows immediatly that she is special because her Mark is different. Normally is is just an outline of a cresent moon on your temple, but Zoey's is already filled in which doesn't happen until you become a vampyre after 5 years, if you live.

This one is new and now I must either check it out in a library or suggest the librarians into buying this one. Sweet, a useful group to find more novels to enjoy.
Finally got around to reading this one. I thought it was pretty good, certainly a good filler while you're waiting on the next Stephenie Meyer book.
I really like this book!!!i am not finished but so far it is really good it is like the twilight seres. it is a love story .
it is a love story about students who get marked. they get a moon on there forhaed
it is a love story about students who get marked. they get a moon on there forhaed
So. One of the favorites of the months. It's one of those books I wouldn't mind driving a little North and hugging the author for such a good action packed magically enhanced vampire book that is a must read for all who read this text.
Such a good book. I read it like last year, and just loved it. Godd for a vampier book. Go Zoey!!!
Such a good book. I read it like last year, and just loved it. Godd for a vampier book. Go Zoey!!!
i think this is a very good book! it is kind of like twilight but ummm....but its more about turning into a vampire and how you get used to it..and ya...i dont think it is as good as twilight but preety close. (watch moonlight fridays @ 9:00pm it is really good.
i juss bought this book and i can't put it down ((semi-lit)). i like how in the beginning they grabbed my attention with the scene and the "Tracker"
I have to agree, but its kind of confusing to start off, I'm not really piecing together how the whole Cherokee Indian thing ties in with turning into a vampyre yet, but then again im not to far into it. And in the beggining the fact that turing into a vampyre or vampyres are part of "everyday-life" kind of threw me off to...
I just started reading it, at first i wasn't sure if i was going to be interested especially after reading the twilight series, but so far i really like it :)
I read that book last year, and the next in the series. I did like it and I thought that it was interesting with the whole vampire theme.
How did you like it?
So far i really like it, although at first i started off liking it and the drifted back and forth, especially trying to understand how the outside world viewed vampyres, but once i understood i really got into it. I'm still a little confused on how the whole Indian heritage part fits into things but i'm just about half-way through so that might be why. A huge selling point for me is that its relatable in someways, as in how they have a "mean-clique," a gay vampire friend and an overly friendly type...its like high school with a twist. haha
I liked it. The series gets better as it goes. The last one is by the far the best so I hope the one coming out in March continues and doesn;t flop.
It was very interesting and a book you just couldn't stop reading till you're done
It was very interesting and a book you just couldn't stop reading till you're done
I honestly found it to be one of the worst books I had ever read. I found it unimaginative, cliched, and poorly written.
Wait, wait, wait..... MARKED WAS THE FIRST IN THE SERIES??????? Oh, come on man!!!! I already bought Chosen, and started to read that, so NO WONDER I didn't get at thing! Jeez, I feel stupid.
im on the fourth book and i love the series so far... the cursing ticks me off tho...
this series is amazing i couldnt put the fourth dook down. cant wait for the fifth book to come out in march
This is a great book, I'm not quite done with it yet but i can't wait, I'm gonna read all of them!
This book was great! All of the books in this series have been fantastic, but I am not going to give anything away. I just wanted to let you know that, but you may have already figured it out since you posted it in Jan.
Interesting series. I love the way the authors mixed the human and vampire world. I'm excited for the next book
i would loved to read this book, but is it traduced into spanish?
my english is not perfect =S
Kristen, PC, Allbooks Review would love to review and promo this book, visit www.allbookreviews.com and contact me.”
I really liked this book right now I'm sooooo close to finishing and I HATE Aphorodite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aphrodite is evil!!!!!!!!!!!!
just read the rest of the books before you judge aphorodite, it really gets interesting trust me...i have read all 5....*teaser*
I love this series and I am so excited that the 5th book comes out next week. I cant wait. I already read the first chapter and listened to the second chapter on the author's website.
I can't wait until the 5th one comes out! I'm still on the fourth though. And I can't believe Erik called her such bad names. Well actually I can because she deserved it. I mean like she was cheating on him with to other dudes. It was really sad when Loren died.
Yeah...might find it interesting...although how it was written is quite different from that of Stephenie Meyer's teenage vamps.
No you should NOT read this. Wait until you're at least 15, it is a bit mature for your age I'm sorry, trust me on this some things will probably traumatize you.
Hey i'm an 11 year old promise. This book is totally good but has some bad words it's just a good series trust me!!!
im 12 so0 i guess u can dere r sum nasty parts dat r kinda disturbing but we hav 2 mature at sum point right
Dont read it. Its to mature for your age! Find some younger books. Just wait a couple years to read the book!
i think you should read marked! but you may have to skip over some stuff.... otherwise if you read twilight you can read this
I just don't recommend this book. But, you might be a little young to see the content of this book. Especially the third one.
you should read this its a very good book but might be a little to much for you!
ok you should read it but in books 2 and 3 it get preaty intence, beleave me i know i'm eleven too.
Yes i liked it you could always try the first one and see what you think ?
It really does depend on what you've read before. If you haven't read many romance novels aimed at teens/ young adults the later books might not be a good idea.
Book 1 starts off okay, though there are some mature relationship themes throughout the book. It does get serious in the romance and vampire scenes in the later books. I suggest that if book 1 is too much wait a while before reading the rest.
As Jesika K said, books 2 and 3 are intense.
Yes u should read it i'm 11 as well and i've read and loved marked & betrayed. I'm mature 2 and the swearing and stuff in it didnt really bother me much. U should giva it a go and see if u like it or not
~princess awesome :)
ya i read this series whrn i was 11 i still thought it was good and a little (...)
Well, I'm twelve, and I'm reading it, but there's a lot of swearing an immature stuff in it. If you think that you can handle it, go ahead and read it, but if you aren't sure, wait until you're 13. Plus, judging by your picture, you don't look like the kind of person that would read this kind of book. But, if you think you'd enjoy it, go ahead!
From a parental standpoint I don't think you should be reading this. Maybe at 14 or 15 it would be more appropriate. I'm sure you would understand what is going on as I am sure most kids of your age are aware of too much these days, but if you were my daughter I would have you wait. I love anything vampire and I just finished reading the first four books if you were wondering.
U should read it and I am 12 it is not mature really a part from the f word
this is one of the best books i have ever ready i recomend this book and the rest of the series to any one that like vampyer stuff and this boook is not a spin off of twilight
I read 4 books and I'm already tired... will this nightmare end someday?....
I found audio was a good way to get through three of the books, but it does cost more. I got good audio on Itunes, played on my MP3 whilst doing house work or walking to the station. :)
I love this book! This series is amazing! check out this amazing site I found www.thehouseofnightroleplay.webs.com
Okay I have heard alot oabou tthis book and it hasn't been all nice now some say boring and others say crazy awesome now I have read the immortal instruments and loved then and of course twilight is it better worse or close to as good as?
This series is really awesome. The characters and relationships are very interesting. The only other series that I might suggest to you is the vampire academy series.
we're all different but i personaly dont think anything can beat the Twilight saga but this is VERY close behind it ! READ IT
Twilight is more of a love story than this is. Yeah she has boy problems but this more of saving the world from evil series then twilight
This book was terrible. Mortal Instruments and the Twilight series were so much better. If you want to read a good series about a "vampire school," read "Vampire Academy" by Richelle Mead. That series is really great.
Okay, I strongly reccomend this book series to you no matter what everyone else says. If I had to rate these books, I would have to say that The Mortal Instruments series is number one. The House of Night series is definetly second. The Twilight Saga would be last, but I enjoyed it alot. But most of the people who are talking about how much twilight rocks obviously never read this series. I think this series would make a better movie than twilight, but i still love twilight.
It's really good but you do kinda get bored of the serise after awhille
It's okay. the storyline's good but i wouldn't want to spend my money on buying the rest of the series.
This book was okay nothing special. I thought the story line was mediocre at best and not very original. I would not recommend this book.
Absolutely loved this book. It's really good. Nothing to recomened to adults however young adults, it's a must read. I couldn't put it down...the best part was the romance.
hey everybody who liked this book! i hav a book club for it and if ur interested, please tell me
I loved this book!* I would love to join your club if you were interested in having me. :]
I enjoyed this whole series....I think I enjoyed it more than most because I grew up in Tulsa, so it was cool to know what places they were talking about in the book. It's definitely a young adult series, but it is still a good read, I enjoyed it very much. I loved their different idea of what vampires actually are, very interesting! I would recommend this series.
well.. i just finished with the Twilight saga.. do you guys recommend me this series..!! i liked twilight a lot. Is ok if i start with this series?
I read these after the Twilight saga and I LOVED THEM! Head over to www.houseofnight-boards.com to discuss the books with other fans like you!
I thought this book was amazing!!!!!!! It was romatic, full of action. Just awesome.
I love this series, but for you ppl who are asking if its gunna be n e good cuz you just read twilight, this book is not twilight it is its own series and i love it more then twilight.
hey does anyone know how many pages is this book? cuz i read the whole book and returned it but yea :P
does anyone know where to read the book chosen online?
I agree with Kalyn h. This sereis is not nearly as serious as the Twilight likes to make itself out to be. This series is just so funny all on it's own!! Also P.C. Cast has some really awesome books all on her own without her daughter itf you like funny romantic fantasy stories. Lots in the way of romance... she gets really into the greek myths and dables a bit into a whole horse priestess storyline that goes on for a few books. IT's really good too and I would totally recomend that series too!
Like y'all, I found this an excellent book. I don't classify myself as a vampire story lover, but I sure am enjoying this series - and I am an adult. I also loved the twilight series. I got mired down in the fourth book of House of Night, Untamed, and I think I am probably not going to finish it. I may just move on to Hunted. Did anyone else have trouble with Untamed?
Its really good! Its not like Twilight which I appreciate it. In this book series, the vampires are already known but like all vampire stories the rules about these vampires are different than others in other stories. You become very interested in the main character Zoey and it keeps you guessing what is going to happen next.
OK this book is waaay better then twighlight i personaly dont like twiglight but i love this series
Twilight is great, and I am SOOO Team Edward. However, in twilight, humans don't know about vampires, where as in the House of Night series, people are aware of their existence. (also, in H.O.N., vampire is spelled vampyre.) In fact, In these books, many famous people are portrayed as vampyres- Kenny Chesney, Shania Twain, and Brad Pitt. It is just an awesome series. I recommend it to anyone who loves fantasy or magic. You should read it, definitely!
I do really like the Twilight books, but I think this may be a little more fast paced...
kept me smiling all the way through it...
this is truely an excellent book...
different views of vampyres
AWESOME!!!!! EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS BOOK!!!!!
GO DAMEON!!!!!!!!
Sorry if I'm terrible for this, correcting things is a bad habit of mine, but I believe it's spelled, Damien.
I absolutely ADORE this book! I love things about vampires, werewolves, and Magic. This fits right in there!
I LOVE this book!! The minute that i stuck my face in it, I was hooked, Just like the back of the book says!!
What amazes me about this particular series is just how addicting they are, my friend read the second or third one in just an hour or two!! But anyways, if the library had cooperated, I definitely would have finished these books in a matter of days!! Can't wait for the sixth one to come from my library!! =D
I love this book. And the rest of the series. Its soo good, And it gets you addicted, so you want to know what happens in the rest of the story. Amazing. i have read all of the ones released so far, so I really can't wait for the next book to be out!
I have read only the first two, but I enjoyed very much and I certainly intend to read the other five!:D
I liked it and if you liked twilight and stuff like that, then i think u would really like these books. is ur last name jones?
I say read this book. It is amazing and leads well into the sequel. I have yet to read the third one but I plan on it very soon.
I've read the whole series except for the most recent one because I don't think it's out in New Zealand yet. But yeah a great series.
Thus far, I'm really not enjoying this book. Honestly, to me, it's kind of like "The Clique" hyped up on vampire steroids. Here are a few of my complaints thus far, pardon the list form...
-Quite a few grammatical errors, which bother me quite a bit. She leaves out apostrophes in a few places...
-She said, "as sure as lightning follows thunder." That's not correct; thunder follows lightning, of course. It makes me wonder if this person actually had an editor.
-She commits one of my literary pet peeves; describing something by it's brand rather than its appearance. I mean, you could say "shoes that glimmer like moonlight on a lake" or you can say "Steve Madden flats."
-It seems like the author is trying way too hard - between the forced profanity, spelling of "vampyre," and strange capitalization where it doesn't seem to fit.
-She strays from the subject quite a bit. Take, for example, her escaping from her house. You finally get into it, then she gives you this long speech about her car and how she can't park in the garage, then describes how she sounds like a guy...
-I feel like a lot of the characters are stereotyped and shallow, even Zoey, in some places.
quit being such a downer about a damn book. my god. if you dont like the book dont read it
Just expressing my opinion - is that not what discussions are for? I respect yours, as well as those of my friends who have enjoyed the book - I simply disagree.
And honestly - if I were to stop reading it, one would give that as a reason for disapproving of my critique, just as much as one would for me continuing to read. I believe there is a name for such an instance in literature. Unfortunately, though, I can't seem to recall.
I enjoyed the book, although I agree there are quite a lot of typing mistakes and grammatical errors.
I believe the mother, P.C. Cast is the main author and had her daughter Kristen help her to make it sound more teenage. I liked how she described things by brand. It seems more modern and realistic to how a teenager would describe them. I agree there was a lot of swearing, but I think young adult authors shy away from using bad language, although most teenagers I know use it a lot around their peers.
Some of the characters do seem a bit shallow at times.
I like how the story flows and how sometimes she goes off on a tangent like a real person's thoughts do.
Anyway, I agree with a few of your points, but I enjoyed this boom regardless. It was fast paced and I kept reading to find out the answers to the mystery, and I like Zoey and cared about what happened to her. It was escapist fun.
Understood, haha. I appreciate your comment; you make sense! There were a few points in the book that I enjoyed - the end was pretty neat, and the spirit ritual stuff was somewhat intriguing. I can't deny the fact that I am somewhat curious about what happens in the rest of the series. I'm not sure if I'll finish it...does it get better?
I agree with you on all points made within this discussion, and thanks for the warning - I think i'll avoid reading The Clique. Haha.
On a side note, cole deftly illustrates why keyboards should have some sort of child-proof locking device.
Haha, thanks - now, I wouldn't really knock this series until you try it - maybe I'm just picky. But get it from a library first, just in case xD. And, though I didn't really like it, it was better the Clique...well, it had a better plot :). The writing isn't much better...but, I mean, there's "vampyres," and then there's a bunch of snobby teenagers doing snobbish, teenagerish things xD.
And LOL, I see where you're coming from!
this series is pretty good, my only complaint really is that zoey gets annoying after a while.. and a lot of blond moment occur as well. overall I enjoy the read
really? blonde moments. Please share. never come across any whilereading the series.
not to judge or anything, but if you hate reading, why are you in a site about books?
Yeah, why are you here if you hate reading? I don't go to sites for football fans and post that I hate football.
you do know this is a website for readers right?
can anyone tell how is this house of nights series?...i dont really like to read books but still somebody tell me, this book series can bring my interest or not?
It is a really good series. It is full of Drama and keeps you entertained. You shold read it.
ohh vrunda! well jessica says the books are good, but they're kinda like a vampire soap opera. A little cheesy, but still good and you cant stop reading. I just started and soo far I like it! =)

i like this series..
i have read all of the books except for the last one..
this series is one of my favorites ever!!
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
i've read the entire series and i love it! it's so addicting, kind of like a soap opera
can't wait until this series becomes a movie I just hope they don't spoil it :)
I have read all the books that are out so far and i plan to continue to read them as they come out but i truthfully wouldnt recomed this series. its poorly written, too stereotypical, characters have no depth and zoey is for lack of a better word a slut. The only character with any depth at all is Aphrodite and even that doesnt develop till book 3 or 4.Also i think the fact that they want to drag the series out to 12 books is terrible. it could be wrapped up in the next one easily, but they are going to stretch it out to the point of being boring with way too much side story and not enough of the actual plot.
Yes a agree that the book has a few gramatical problems and really needs a new editor but besides that i think you got this series all wrong. It was not stereotypical. I found it the total opposite of stereotypical. The ideas were completely new and really different to typical vampire books now days such as twilight. The book actually had its facts straight and i could tell that the authers had actually done their research and was surprised by the great depth to the books which you so obviously missed. The ideas taken from the ols religion wicca were potrayed in a great manner. Okay and if you think the characters didn't have dept than i find it really hard to believe thatyou have actually even read the books. Btw, i don't think people write books just so they can 'wrap it up' when it comes around the 8th 9 th book. Read the authers guide..
I completely agree with you, Randi. The characters are pretty stereotyped indeed...I mean, Zoey is a typical teenager. Stevie Rae is southern, Aphrodite is hot and mean, Damien is gay and likes vocabulary. Do we really get anything else special about these guys? Not really...and that's how it's clear that they're pretty two-dimensional :P.
I just read that these books are not recommended for children under the age of twelve!! I have an eleven year old and this book has just enough sexual reference (ie Aphrodite on her knees in front of Erik) as well language that I would not allow her to read them!! I personally thought the first couple books were good but started going a little downhill with Untamed. Hopefully they will start picking up!!
Fantatic book to read. My eyes were glued to the book. Loved every second of it!!! I will continue to read the rest of the books!
I've read all the books and they are really good! They are very addicting and well written!
I love this book and I loved it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much
Wait, so are they actually called vampyres or is everybody just spelling it wrong in the description page? ?_?
i think they just try to make it seem like an older idea by doing vampYre instead of vampIre
Ha there are multiple ways to spell Vampire/Vampyre its not wrong spelling just preferences
awesome book!! the first book of a series is always the best but a series with 12 books!?!?!?!?!? i think it might go on for a bit too long but its really GOOD!!!
I just read the latest one from the series ! Amazing books ! I went and read Marked the other day ! By far one of my favorites from the whole series ! :) . [3
LOVED the book. But can someone please explain to me what is happening with Elizabeth no-last-name and Elliot after they've died?
This is one of those series that I have to run right out and buy the latest book the day it appears on bookshelves. I just can't put these books down, and I've read most of them twice! I recommend this to any fans of vampires books, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy. PC and Kristin are an amazing mother/daughter team who know how to write page-turning plot with believable and well-fleshed out characters you can't help but fall in love with.
I've read the first book and half of the second one. I thought it was a great book and it was one that i could not pt down. Then i got bored with it. I might go back to it.
This book was good as far as the action, drama, and romance goes, but then thery make teenagers seem so inmuture. The series though is no longer good its all about the money now.
i thank that this book was grat butt you have to read more then the first book.
"There also stands the gloomy house of night,
Ghastly clouds shroud it in darkness.
Before it Atlas stands erect and on his head
And unwiring arms firmly supports the broad sky,
Where Night and Day cross a bronze threshold
And then come close and greet each other."
After I read the Twilight series I didn't think any vamp series will hook me, but this one did, it is really good and different then Twilight, it is more close to the old vampires stories, like they awake at night and sleep through the day, they drink blood and enjoy it, but what is different that they eat too and sleep! Whenever one of them did something good or has a strange ability he gets beside the mark a beautiful tattoo in his forehead and maybe shoulders! Before turning into a vampire you should go through stages for four years and then you won't die and become a full grown vampire! And the whole world knows there are vampires.
