Characters/People edit
- Todd Hewitt: The main character. Todd has spent so much time running away from Prentisstown, but now he's falling back into it. He asks to see Viola everyday and tells President Prentiss not the hurt Viola.
- Viola Eade: The second main character. Viola keeps Todd in check with her resourcefulness and intellect... at least she did when they were together.
- President Prentiss: The mayor of Prentisstown, which Todd ran away from. He is twisted and plays a hard, planned out game. He knows who will win. It soon becomes evident that he wishes Todd was his son instead of Davy.
- Mistress Coyle: Mistress Coyle/Nicola Coyle is the leader of The Answer. Considered by some to be a terrorist.
- Davy Prentiss Jr: The mayor's son. He is a major embarassent and disappointment to the mayor.
- The Return (1017): A Spackle prisoner who causes problems for Todd.
- Corinne: A nurse from the house of healing, teaches and helps Viola make important decisions and gives her a lesson of life, ""You are the choices you make"
- Madeleine Poole: One of the nicer nurses from the house of healing. Helps Viola heal from her wound, and becomes a close friend.
- Ivan Farrow: A character that joined the army from a settlement called Farbranch. 'goes where the power is'
- Mr. Hammar: A man from old Prentisstown who joined the army. One of the Mayor's right-hand men. He enjoys others pain.
- Lee: A young soldier in search of his older sister, and mother. Becomes Viola's closest and most trusted friend from THE ANSWER
- Mayor Ledger: The original Mayor of Haven
- Wilf: A helpful and trusted friend of both Viola and Todd.
- Mr. Collins: Add a description of this character.
- Mistress Lawson: One of the healers of Haven, and a member of The Answer.
