In the end, my aspiration for those that read this book is that its content will (as indeed happened to me during its composition) stimulate contemplation and introspection or; in a word, thought.

Quotes edit see section history

  • ““Nobody can give you wiser advice than yourself.”—Cicero Since advice is based on experience and our own experiences are unique, then it follows that our most sage advice will come when we take counsel with ourselves. All of us at times seek the advice and counsel of friends and confidants, discuss with them our trials and tribulations and seek their guidance. Honestly, though, don't we ask for advice so as to confirm or get approval for whatever it is that we have decided? In the main, aren't we seeking high and low for a "yes"? This seems to be the case. Whether for good or ill we tend to act on our own counsel, despite the approval or the misgivings of others, and this is as it should be. After all, each of us reaps the ripe or bitter fruit of our own actions.”
    Cicero
  • ““To ask the hard questions is simple.”—W. H. Auden But to find the difficult answers is another matter entirely. Perhaps this is because there are no definitive answers as such, but only ways of living as different and varied as people themselves. We must find the curiosity and courage within ourselves to ask the hard questions, and then have the passion to find the answers. One thing is for sure, my answer is not your answer, and yesterday’s answer may not suffice for today’s question.Inquire, and then inquire again, and know that sometimes the whispering wind may carry to you an answer or two.”
    W.H. Auden
