Started off a little slow but soon picked up. Intriguing old English setting and an ending I never would have dreamed of.

It was a dark and stormy night. The perfect weather for a Romance novel since no one could leave the ripmybodice.com offices without getting their respective Ferragamo / Jimmy Choos / Gucci shoes wet and lord knows that none of the girls like it when their gorgeous shoes are sullied by rainwater. So having asked her trustt Cabana boy Juan to rustle up a Caesar salad (”Easy on the dressing, heavy on the bacon!”), Sheridan Sakura Carlotta ambled into the ripmybodice.com “Library of Lurve” and headed in particular, to a corner entitled “SSC’s stack of goodies”. She pondered a while, on what she should read next, having only recently recovered from the searingly hot “A Hunger Like No Other” that left the couch she was reclining on at the time slightly singed. “The full moon has come and gone,” she muttered. “Where is that damned werewolf of mine?” Mimi, who was also in the Library of Lurve at the time reading one of Kresley Cole’s historicals, scurried out, not wanting to be part of Sheridan Sakura Carlotta’s mutterings (which sometimes have a tendency to turn violent).

Townsfolk called him devil. For dark and enigmatic Julian, Earl of Ravenwood, was a man with a legendary temper and a first wife whose mysterious death would not be forgotten. Some said the beautiful Lady Ravenwood had drowned herself in the black, murky waters of Ravenwood Pond. Others whispered of foul play and the devil's wrath.

Now country-bred Sophy Dorring is about to become Ravenwood's new bride. Drawn to his masculine strength and the glitter of desire that burned in his emerald eyes, the tawny-haired lass had her own reasons for agreeing to a marriage of convenience. One was vengeance, and in its pursuit she would entangle Julian in a blackmail plot, a duel at dawn, and a dangerous masquerade. The other reason was dearer to her heart, but just as wild a quest: Sophy Dorring intended to teach the devil to love again.

I am not really into romance novels but since this one was already on my shelf and tagged humor by shelfari member I thought I would read it. The story was very predictable, and I didn't like the hero very much, he was a jerk at first and I thought he would change by then end of the story, he didn't. the overall story was okay, but I wouldn't read another book by this author, I've already read two and that's enough.

Let's hear it for "Women's Lib". Sophy Dorring was a woman of her own mind. She knew that women what women were worth and expected to be respected for it. Along comes Julian, Earl of Ravenwood (whom she has known and loved since whe was 18, unbeknownst to him). His first wife was a hellion and adultress. He decided that the little country girl Sophy would do nicely for wife two. What a great romp..so much fun.. Love Amanda Quick's (Jayne Ann Krentz) historical romances.

I loved this story as I do all Amanda Quick's novels. Her romances are just that...real romances! Her H/H's are original, firery, passionate and interesting. Her plots follow a pattern that prooves to be very successful time after time.
In this story Julian marries his bride to have an heir but falls in love with her from the getgo. She has loved him forever but wants something more from him. Find out what!
