Quotes edit see section history

  • “"If you're a ghost," he said, "We mean you no disrespect. And if you're not a ghost tell me who you are - or you soon will be one."”
    Gundar Hardstriker
  • “These Skandians - the barbarians to who you refer - are friends of mine. they are going to help you regain your castle. some of them will probley die doing it. Sure we're paying them but the fact remains, we need them. Now we are all sick and tired of you Xander. You'd better realise that, unlike the Skandians, we do not need you. So if i hear one more word of complant, one more snide remark, I swear I will drag you back to Macindaw and hand you over to Keren. is that clear?”
    Will Treaty
  • “If you worry that you'll lose, you probably will.”
    Halt
  • “Will, I haven't the faintest idea what you've got in mind with this .... thing. Bear in mind I'm a simple warrior - the sort of person I've heard you and Halt refer to as a bash-and-wacker. Now you show me a drawing of something that looks like a upside-down back-to-front hand cart - and incidently i've seen better drawings of wheels - and expect me to get excited about it.”
    Horace Altman
  • “Will looked up angrily, shaking his head in disbelief. "Will you shut up?" he said tautly. Horace shrugged in apology. 'I'm sorry' he said, "I sneezed. A person can't help it when they sneeze." "Perhaps not. But you could try to make it sound a little less like an elephant trumpeting in agony." Will told him.”
    Will and Horace
  • “"Any sign of them yet? he asked. Will looked at him. 'Yes', he said. 'A party of fifty Scotti came though just twenty minutes ago'. Really? Horace looked startled. He wasn't fully awake yet. Will rolled his eyes to heaven. 'Oh, my word, yes', he said. 'They were riding on oxen and playing bagpipes and drums. Of course not,' he went on. 'If they had come past, I would have woken you-if only to stop your snoring'. I don't snore', Horace said, with dignity. Will raised his eyebrows. 'Is that so?' he said. 'Then in that case, you'd better chase out that colony of walruses who are in the tent with you...of course you snore.'”
    Horace and Will
  • “'He's a bit ripe close to, isn't he?' he said. Will shrugged. 'I was a little too busy to notice.'”
    Will, Horace
  • “Malcolm wiped his eyes. 'Aaah,' he said to Horace,' it does you good to start the day with a laugh.' 'It's late morning,' Will pointed out.'Better late than never,' Malcolm replied.”
    Malcolm, Will
  • “Will eyed them coldly. 'Oh yes. Extremely amusing,' he said. 'Highly entertaining. Why did I train to be a jongleur, I wonder, when we had two comedians like you available? Now I know,' he added, with heavy emphasis,' why people call comedians fools.'”
    Will
  • “Malcolm studied the sketch for a few more seconds. 'And did you want them this squashed-up shape? Our wheels tend to be sort of round. I don't think these ones would roll too easily, if at all.'”
    Malcolm
  • “Think of a positive outcome, and you will achieve it. Allow doubt to enter your mind, and the doubt will become self-fulfilling.”
    Halt
  • “Gunder subscribed to the view that a face covered in battle scars usually belonged to a man who didn't know how to duck.”
    Gunder Hardstriker
  • “Failure is just a few seconds away from success.”
    Will
  • “Sometimes... people can be too smart for their own good. Too much thinking could confuse things.”
    Horace
  • “"I need fighting men."he said. "I'm going to sack a castle, and I hear you people are good at that."”
