Quotes edit see section history

  • “We mermaids are a cowardly bunch. Keeping our existence a total secret makes cowardice pretty much a necessity. If we don't flee fast enough at the first sign of a passing ship, we might end up on the cover of next week's Flash Paper. We're more of an escape-now-ask-questions-later kind of species.”
  • “Drawing on the magical powers of my people -- powers granted by Poseidon's sea nymph Capheira, our ancient ancestor -- I picture my iridescent scales dissolving completely away and pale pink skin appearing in its place.”
  • “That whole idea that mermaids swim around topless. Totally untrue. That's why we invented the bikini top.”
  • “Secrecy is paramount in the mer world. Besides the whole flee-at-the-first-sign-of-humans instinct, we also keep our world carefully camouflaged. With a few exceptions -- like the Bimini Road and those underwater temples off the coast of japan -- our buildings look like naturally forming phenomena.”
  • “I don't believe anything magical can make someone more in love. . . . Love is already the strongest magic in the world.”
    Quince Fletcher
  • “You shouldn't make assumptions about how others view you, Lily. Some people find beauty in chaos."”
    Quince Fletcher
  • “I can't stand trend chasers and wannabe supermodels. I like girls who are fresh and unique. Individual. Like you.”
    Quince Fletcher
  • “Love isn't about obsession. Love is about . . . connection.”
    Quince Fletcher
  • “I know about love. I know about wanting and dreaming and wishing with every piece of your soul. I know enough to recognize the difference between the parts that are real and the parts that are only in my fantasy.”
    Quince Fletcher
  • “I’ll learn to drive Princess on one condition. . . . I get to wear a pink helmet.”
    Lily Sanderson
