This book is about Jayfeather, Foxleap, Dovewing, and Squirrleflight's trip to the Tribe of Rushing Water. In the beginning, Dovepaw and Ivypaw are made Warriors, Dovewing and Ivypool. Jayfeather gets a dream about the Tribe. its about the Prophecy of him, Dovewing, and Lionblaze. Lionbblaze doesn't go on the trip. Jayfeather goes back in time and is taken back to when the Tribe first comes to the Mountains. They are origanally from where the Clans are now. Jayfeather is a reincarnation of Jay's Wing, and he picks the first Stoneteller, Half-Moon. The book ends with Jayfeather picking Craig as the new Stoneteller. The Clan cats go home

  • Lionblaze: A young ThunderClan warrior, and Jayfeather's brother. He is part of the prophecy, and is undefeatable in battle. He is the reincarnation of Lion's Roar.
  • Jayfeather: ThunderClan's medicine cat, and Lionblaze's mother. He is part of the prophecy, and can walk in other cats' dreams, as well as see the past and present through other cats. In the waking world, he is blind, but in his dreams he sees perfectly. He is the reincarnation of Jay's Wing, one of the Ancients.
  • Dovewing: A ThunderClan warrior apprentice, mentored by Lionblaze, who later recieves her name of Dovewing, She is part of the prophecy, and can sense things perfectly much father than any cat should be able to. Her sister is Ivypool.
  • Ivypool: A ThunderClan warrior apprentice, mentored by Cinderheart, who later recieves her name of Ivypool. She is Dovewing's sister.
  • Firestar: ThunderClan's brave, but aged, leader. His mate is Sandstorm, and his daughters are Squirrelflight and Leafpool. He is the grandfather of Lionblaze and Jayfeather, and the great-granduncle of Ivypaw(pool) and Dovepaw(wing).
  • Brambleclaw: ThunderClan's deputy, and Squirrelflight's ex-mate.
  • Teller of the Pointed Stones (Stoneteller): Teller of the Pointed Stones is the leader and the healer of the Tribe of Rushing Water in the mountains.
  • Brook Where Small Fish Swim (Brook): Stormfur's mate, and prey-hunter. She is mother to Lark That Sings at Dawn (Lark) and Pine That Clings to Rock (Pine).
  • Stormfur: A former RiverClan warrior, who fell in love with the prey-hunter Brook and chose to stay with her when the Clans left the mountains during the Great Journey. He is now Brook's mate, a prey-catcher, and father of Lark That Sings at Dawn (Lark) & Pine That Clings to Rock (Pine).
  • Flametail: ShadowClan's former medicine cat apprentice, brother to Tigerheart and Dawnpelt, son of Tawnypelt and Rowanclaw.
  • Blossomfall: A young ThunderClan warrior, sister to Briarlight and Bumblestripe, daughter of Graystripe and Mille.
  • Half Moon: One of the Ancients, the first cats to settle in the mountains, whom Jayfeather speaks with in his "dreams".
  • Stone Song: One of the Ancients, the first cats to settle in the mountains. He led them to their mountain home.
  • Rock: One of the Ancients; a blind, hairless cat. He is deceased. One of the Ancients who used to guide young warriors through the tunnels when they lived on what is now the Clans' territory
  • Flora: One of the intruders on the Tribe's lands.
  • Crag Where Eagles Nest (Crag): Cave-Guard in the Tribe of Rushing Water, and Brook Where Small Fish Swim's brother.
  • Talon of Swooping Eagle (Talon): A retired cave-guard, Brook (Brook Where Small Fish Swim)'s brother.
  • Squirrelflight: A fluffy ginger she-cat with a white paw; ThunderClan warrior
  • Foxleap: A young ThunderClan warrior, Dustpelt and Ferncloud's son, and Icecloud's brother.
  • Icecloud: A young ThunderClan warrior, Dustpelt and Ferncloud's daughter, and Foxleap's sister.
  • Ferncloud: A ThunderClan queen, and Dustpelt's mate. She has mothered Spiderleg, Shrewpaw (deceased) Larchkit (deceased), Hollykit (deceased), Birchfall, Foxleap, and Icecloud.
  • Daisy: A ThunderClan queen. She is Berrynose, Hazeltail, Honeyfern(dead) and Mousewhisker's mother by a loner, and Toadstep and Rosepetal's mother by Spiderleg.
  • Toadstep: A young ThunderClan warrior. Daisy and Spiderleg's son, and Rosepetal's brother.
  • Rosepetal: A young ThunderClan warrior. Daisy and Spiderleg's son, and Toadstep's sister.
  • Spiderleg: A ThunderClan warrior named after his extremely long black legs. He is father to Rosepetal and Toadstep.
  • Birchfall: A ThunderClan warrior, Ferncloud and Dustpelt's son, Whitewing's mate, and Dovepaw(wing) and Ivypaw(pool)'s father.
  • Dustpelt: A senior ThunderClan warrior, and Ferncloud's mate.
  • Sandstorm: A senior ThunderClan warrior, Firestar's mate, and Squirrelflight and Leafpool's mother.
  • Leafpool: A ThunderClan warrior, formerly the medicine cat. When it was revealed she was the mother of Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf(Deceased), she told Firestar she could no longer serve as his medicine cat. Squirrelflight's sister.
  • Antpelt: A young WindClan warrior.
  • Tigerheart: A young ShadowClan warrior, training in the Dark Forest. He is Dawnpelt's brother, and Tawnypelt and Rowanclaw's son.
  • Thistleclaw: A Dark Forest warrior. In the time of Bluestar, before she was leader, he was a warrior of ThunderClan.
  • Brokenstar: A Dark Forest leader. He was ShadowClan's leader in the very beginning of the Warriors series, and later revealed as Yellowfang's son.
  • Tigerstar: Tigerstar was the former Deputy for ThunderClan. When he betrayed them, he was banned, so he crawled to ShadowClan. Father of Brambleclaw (a cat from thunder clan), Tawnypelt(ShadowClan), Mothwing(RiverClan), and Hawkfrost( a dark forest warrior, deceased).
  • Jay's Wing: One of the Ancients, the first cats to settle in the mountains.
  • Dove's Wing: One of the Ancients, the first cats to settle in the mountains.
