The setting of this book is the general area around the lake, where the Clans make their homes, but it is mainly focused on ThunderClan's territory, the underground tunnels, and the Gathering Island.
Underground Tunnels: A system of tunnels underneath ThunderClan and WindClan territory, created by a river that floods when it rains.
The Forest: The place where Thunderclan makes their home
Dark Forest: This is where the Dark Forest cats train the clan cats to fight.
ThunderClan: One of the Clans around the lake. Their territory is the forest between ShadowClan and WindClan, and their home is a ravine. They are led by Firestar, their deputy is Brambleclaw, and their medicine cat is Jayfeather.
RiverClan: One of the Clans around the lake. Their territory is the open spaces and rivers between ShadowClan and the horseplace, and their home is an island. They are led by Mistystar, their deputy is Reedwhisker, and their medicine cat is Mothwing.
ShadowClan: One of the Clans around the lake. Their territory is the pine forest and marshes between THunderClan and RiverClan, and their home is a sheltered area within their territory. They are led by Blackstar, their deputy is Rowanclaw, and their medicine cat is Littlecloud.
WindClan: One of the Clans around the lake. Their territory is the open moors between ThunderClan and the horseplace, and their home is a small dip in the moor. They are led by Onestar, their deputy is Ashfoot, and their medicine cat is Kestrelflight.
StarClan: The 4 Clans believe in StarClan, the place where their ancestors go after death. StarClan is in the night sky and Silverpelt. Every Clan is represented there, and there are little hostilities between Clans. If you are good of heart, follow the warrior code, and are loyal to your Clan, you are sure to end up in StarClan.
Dark Forest: The 4 Clans also believe in the Dark Forest, the place where those cats who did not deserve StarClan go after death. The cats of the Dark Forest are the vile, the evil, the cruel, and the tyranical cats of the Clans who commited evil and wrong.
