• Weed: An orphan with wild curly hair. Misunderstood because of his unusual gift. Falls in Love with Jessamine and then is gone with no farewell. Her father claims he hung himself.
• Jessamine Luxton: Golden haired girl and golden freckles,lonely,she is a healer but she is less trusting having recovered from near death. Her heart is broken and decides to search for Weed.
• Dr. Thomas Luxton: stern,demanding, he is a healer and Is often at the castle. He has a gated locked garden where only he has the key. This is where he keeps his poison plants. He is only interested in his craft.His beard is as long as well as his hair. His rage shows in his eyes when confronted.
• Orleander The Prince of Poison: Shadowed wings and his laughter falls like rains of ice. A phantom of Jessamine,night mares.
• Horance: They found a pile of bones and think Weed has murdered "The Fire an Brimstone Preacher.' Horance cleans his teeth with his own dirty fingers as he questions Jessamine
• Ned: Is a farmer with teeth as yellow as a mules. want to get home so he can do his harvest. He is with Horance.
• Tobias Pratt: Proprietor of a near by asylum. He want money from the doctor. A bachelor, prosperous business owner.
• Friar Bartholomer: He is part of Weeds former life. He reads the scriptures while drinking.
• Zachariah: Goes by the name of Rye . An older man who is an Irish trader.
• Maryan: A child of 11 or twelve having olive shin,and eyes black as Onyx long dark hair that hanfs strange like a horses tail. She smells of incense.
• Agnes: sells fine dyed yarn she spins herself. She is a gossip and trouble maker.
• Segnora Baglioni: Blunt woman, loves her garden. She is the guardian of very old books, all are rare. No one know they exhist
• Dr. Priestley: He believes that plant produce the air we breath.
