Eight months after everyone over the age of fifteen disapeared from the town of Perdidio Beach, California, the stakes are still rising. The kids in Perdido Beach are still starving. Yet despite the simmering unrest left behind by so many battles, power struggles, and angry divides, there is a momentary calm in Perdido Beach.

But enemies in the FAYZ don’t just fade away, and in the quiet, deadly things are stirring, mutating, and finding their way free. The Darkness has found its way into the mind of its Nemesis at last and is controlling it through a haze of delirium and confusion. A highly contagious, fatal illness spreads at an alarming rate as sinister, predatory insects terrorize Perdido Beach. And Sam, Astrid, Diana, and Caine are plagued by a growing doubt that they’ll escape—or even survive—life in the FAYZ. With so much turmoil surrounding them, what desperate choices will they make when it comes to saving themselves and those they love?

Characters/People edit see section history

  • Jennifer H: One of the Jennifers that lived together.
  • Sam Temple (Bright Hands): Main character. Leader of Perdido Beach and has the ability to shoot a green-white light from his hands and create a floating light, nicknamed in LIES as "Sammy Suns" The coyotes call him "Bright Hands"
  • Caine Soren: What once was THE main antagonist in GONE and HUNGER(was later replaced by Drake and the Gaiaphage). Caine is Sam’s fraternal twin brother and has telekinesis. He is one of the most powerful people in the FAYZ, tied with Sam as a four-bar. He has a big ego and feels the need to beat Sam because of the fact that their mother adopted Caine out, while keeping Sam. In HUNGER, his mind was possessed by the Gaiaphage and he went absolutely insane. In LIES, he teamed up with Zil to burn down Perdido Beach, although he just wanted a way to get to an island that Bug found in a magazine that used to be owned by two famous celebrities who built a mansion there. He wanted to go there because they were completely out of food at Coates, the area of the FAYZ that he owns. The only thing that displays that he may have some good inside him, is his love for Diana, which he proved in HUNGER by teaming up with Sam to save her life, and in LIES when he let go of revenge to once again save her.
  • Astrid Ellison: Sam's on-and-off girlfriend. Very, very smart and also very stubborn. Known as "Astrid the Genius". Her power was mentioned once in GONE and she seemed to be able to read peoples destiny, although her power has not come up since then. Leader of the Town Council at the beginning of LIES, but stepped down at the end, but not before making a new list of rules for the town.
  • Diana Ladris: A very seductive, knowing character that is extremely manipulative. She has the ability to measure other peoples’ power levels, which she describes as being like a cell phone system, measured in “bars”. She was pretty bad in GONE and even HUNGER, but in LIES, she proved that, despite what she, and mostly everyone else thinks, she is good when she almost sacrificed herself and Caine to save people she didn’t know that well from him. She spent most of LIES contemplating suicide because of her guilt for how she used to be. She admits that she is in love with Caine at the end of LIES. In HUNGER and GONE she was known for her sarcasm and the way she could stand up to and mock Caine. She and Drake had a constant hate for one another and she was one of the two people, the second being Caine, who didn’t show fear towards him. She has very high morals and never crosses the line dividing “bad” from “evil”.
  • Lana Arwen Lazar: She can heal any type of physical wound. The main source of evil in the story, the Darkness, has leached into her brain, leaving her forever connected to the Darkness. She is bitter and only enjoys the company of her dog, Patrick.
  • Drake Merwin (Whip-Hand): Another main antagonist, Drake is a sadist who use to be one of Caine’s minions until book two, HUNGER, when he attempted to kill Diana, proceeding by attempting to kill Caine. Caine, out of rage, murdered Drake by stabbing him with a uranium rod and throwing him into the mine shaft with the Gaiaphage, using his teleknisis. Drake came back in book three, LIES, by sharing a body with Britney. Drake has no notable powers, but has a tentacle-like whip in place of his right arm that mutated in book one, GONE, when Sam burned his arm and Diana had to amputate it.
  • Quinn Gaither: Sam’s best friend. Does not have any powers and has become more and more useful and likable as the series continues. Fishes with a crew of people for food but has a consistent problem with not being brave at the right times.
  • Brianna (The Breeze): Has the power to run with super speed (Hence, the nickname) Has a crush on Computer Jack and is known for her show-off, cocky attitude.
  • Dekka Talent: As a lesbian, black girl Dekka feels like an outcast. She has the ability to remove gravity from a space.
  • Jack (Computer Jack): A techno-geek that’s handy at anything computerized. Is ironically gifted with the power of super strength, although he’s quite modest about it. Like Dekka, he used to like Diana, but has moved on to Brianna. Jack caused the blackout in the FAYZ in Hunger and craves technology
  • Orc: An alcoholic ex-bully. His power is that he is basically covered in granite stone, making him nearly invulnerable except for is mouth and eyes
  • Howard: Orc’s right-hand man. Has no powers, but is known for his sarcastic criticism and is nearly always close to useless, although he provides his share of witty comments.
  • Brittney: A very religious girl that was murdered brutally by Drake in HUNGER after she attempted to kill him, Diana, and Caine, considering them to be the “devil’s trio”. She has no powers, except for that she couldn’t seem to be able to die. She also sees who seems to be her little brother, Tanner, who died in book one after Drake set the coyotes free in the daycare and he now tells her what to do. She came back to life in book three, Lies, and is now doomed to share a body with Drake.
  • Sanjit: A character first introduced in LIES as a very good person who is the eldest sibling of the children left behind on the island. He doesn’t seem to have any powers but is very, very kind and selfless. He seemed to have a sort of connection with Diana when they met in towards the middle of LIES and she ends up saving his life by nearly sacrificing hers at the end. He and his siblings escape Caine's wrath and fly to Perdido Beach on a helicopter.
  • Zil: He died in LIES, but is a still large part for the remaining Human Crew
  • Edilio Escobar: Sam’s right-hand man. In charge of the town’s security system and digs graves for the dead. Of Honduran descent, although often mistaken as a Mexican. Possibly the most peaceful characters in the entire series. Possibly has romantic feelings for Lana.
  • Bug: One of Caine’s workers who has the ability to camouflage, often compared to a chameleon. He is described as being a “little creep” and no one particularly seems to like him.
  • Penny: A girl with the power to make people see horrible things that aren’t really there, such as monsters or disgusting creatures. She is “in love” with Caine and hates Diana, because of Caine’s love for her. She is very envious and cruel and completely insane. Caine paralyzed her legs in LIES
  • Little Pete: Little Pete is a severley autistic kid, who has the power to make the FAYZ wall. If put under enough pressure he will make things disapear.
  • Albert: He is known to be the most powerful boy in the FAYZ. He invented the currency in the FAYZ which is why it's called 'Bertos. He also organizes the food and water and is always planning ahead. He takes advantage of his power which is why he can afford to have a maid and privileged food
  • Jamal: A boy who is hired by Albert to be his personal bodyguard, although he hates Albert with all his life.
  • Taylor: A freak who has the power to 'bounce'. Or teleport. She is Asian and known to have a crush on Sam. She is always the one to spread gossip and neither Astrid or Brianna like her. She used to be a student as Coates academy.
  • Hunter: A boy who in HUNGER is shot in the head and has brain damage. He is now the hunter who feeds the kids along with Quinn, the fisherman.
  • Roscoe: Collector of the food that Hunter brings in.
  • Dahra: The 'doctor' who lives in the hospital. She doesn't really have any experience and so she learnt all her knowledge from a book. She mostly keeps the sickly company while Irving them pills and keeping track of everything until Lana can heal them properly
  • Mary: She was the one in charge of the day care and all the littlies until she decides to take the poof in LIES. She was convinced by Nerezza and Orsay that death was also a way out of the FAYZ and so she tried to kill the littlies by jumping of a cliff with them. She was very loyal and kind but sadly suffered from Bulemia and Anorexia
  • Patrick: Lana's very loyal pet dog. He is only alive becuase he belongs to the Healer.
  • Tanner: Britnney's brother who is dead. In PLAGUE and LIES he constantly appears in Brittneys imagination telling her what to do.
  • Jennifer B: One of the three Jennifer's in PLAGUE and also the only one we get to read the point of view from. She is described with ginger hair.
  • Ellen: She is the fire chief but is also present in other emergencies. She was a big part in calming down the big fire in LIES that almost burned down the whole of Perdido Beach
