  • Sutton Mercer: The dead girl narrating the story. Adopted by the Mercers, and twin to Emma.
  • Emma Paxton: Sutton's twin, and fill-in for her whole life since Sutton is dead. Was abandoned by their birth mother, Becky, and since then lived in numerous foster homes. Now she has to pretend to be Sutton, or else Sutton's killer will kill Emma too.
  • Ethan Landry: Emma's crush. Ethan's the only one who knows that Emma is not Sutton.
  • Madeline Vega: One of Sutton's closest friends from their Lying Game circle. She dances ballet, and has a brother named Thayer who went missing.
  • Laurel Mercer: Sutton's sister, and a member of the Lying Game club.
  • Garrett: Was Sutton's boyfriend at the time Emma came in to replace her life, but Emma dumped him after they almost went all the way.
  • Charlotte Chamberlain: Another of Sutton's closest friends from in The Lying Game circle. Used to be Garrett's girlfriend, but Sutton basically stole him away from her.
  • Gabby Fiorello: One of the "Twitter Twins." Became a member of the Lying Game, along with her twin, in "Never Have I Ever" after wanting to be in for a super long time. In one of Sutton's pranks, Gabby had a seizure from fright.
  • Nisha Banerjee: Co-captain of Sutton/Emma's tennis team, and a serious rival/disliker of Sutton.
  • Thayer Vega: Madeline's brother. Went missing since summer. Comes back to town in Sutton/Emma's room. Possible murderer of Sutton.
