Annalisa Townsend is kissed by a pirate called James Sterling when her ship is attacked and taken over by the terrible Crimson Kelly. A year later, Annalisa wants to free her father, who was responsible for the treasure lost to Crimson Kelly, from jail by finding James Sterling with her friend Nathaniel. Since James Sterling was marooned, for letting Annalisa free when they first met, by Crimson Kelly, he is more than willing to help Annalisa find crimson Kelly and get her money back. On the journey, Annalisa realizes that the jealous Nathaniel might not be the person she thought he was when he takes over her ship and tries to kill James, the man she loves. This love triangle leads to betrayal and disappointment. Even though in the end Annalisa gets the money to free her father, she has to leave James behind in what seems to be a certain death sentence. Annalisa goes with her father to the new colony: it is there where James comes to her alive and no longer a pirate but a member under british rule, for it takes a pirate to catch a pirate. :)

There isn't anything to bad in the book. The worst is a few kisses and some sword fighting. The 9-12 group could probably read it as well.
