And God Changed His Mind

And God Changed His Mind

by Brother Andrew, Susan DeVore Williams

Can prayer really change Gods mind? That is the question best-selling author Brother Andrew explores in this thought-provoking book on a dramatically different kind of prayer practiced by Old Testament patriarchs and prophets alike.
Using illustrations from Scripture and his ministry, Andrew shows convincingly that God has indeed changed his mind, solely because of his peoples prayers.... (read more)

I am not a Christian and I have not read this book but I want to recommend it for other reasons. The possibility of changing God's mind is a theme in my own book which lays out the moral and spiritual problems of Christian fundamentalism--hopefully to be published in 2008. I am interested in the biblical illustrations of God changing "His" mind because I think they undermine the Christian fundamentalist complacency and fatalism that says, "Non-believers will be condemned and it's not me but God who says this." Two reasons I am a non-believer: (1) the belief that the story of Adam, Eve, God, and the serpent in Eden is a story of the birth of sin, the Fall of humankind, separation from God, and inherited sinfulness is just that--a belief about it; it is not what the story literally says, but an interpretation of it, and I don't buy it, and (2) it seems to me that it is ludicrous to believe or to issue a ruling (regardless of who or Who is pronouncing it) that, along with murder, rape, stealing, lying, starving people to death, torture and other moral crimes, not believing something fits somehow in that list, categorized as a sin or moral crime. I wonder then, why it is that instead of spending their time and energy pushing the point that God will condemn those who do not believe, fundamentalists aren't busy praying to God to change things so that will not be the case. They would be on higher moral and spiritual ground, I think, if they modeled themselves after Abraham in Gen. 18: 25-26 and say with him, "Far be it from thee to do such a thing....to slay the righteous with the wicked, so that the righteous fare as the wicked! Shall not the Judge of all the Earth do right?" If you would like to be notified of the publication of my book, please email me at steve.gok2006@gmail.com.

This is a remarkable book. From the man who was responsible for millions of Bibles smuggled behind the Iron Curtain, he tells his secret strategy. He refers to scriptures in proving that Christians (and Jews) may indeed justify asking God to change his mind. Then he gives examples of when he did just that, and GOD DID CHANGE HIS MIND. He charges the heresy of Christian fatalism with the responsibility for the powerlessness of many of today's Christians. He points out that Christianity (and Judaism)is the ONLY religion that denies the immovability of the will of God. If you are into prayer, try it, you'll like it.

Brother Andrew knows what prayer is all about, and this book makes plain the ways in which God longs to communicate with us. Biblically sound, highly readable. Exciting stuff! It will transform your prayer life.

This is an excellent book on the subject of Christian prayer. I suggest it to anyone interested in praying or communicating with God in more dynamic means.
