Smart and Sexy

by Jill Shalvis

Noah Fisher has worked for months to make Sky High the most prestigious charter airline in California. He's long overdue for a break - something involving ski slopes, cold beers, and hot ski bunny babes, not necessarily in that order. The itinerary doesn't include being hijacked by Bailey Sinclair, gorgeous widow of one of Sky High's wealthiest (ex-) clients. But here they are, and being... (read more)

Disappointing series

I had thought this series would be both sexy and exciting. It turned out that it wasn't much of either. I got more disappointed as the series went on with basically the same thing in each.

After an accident which left his passenger and lover dead, pilot Noah Fisher is finally ready to fly again, and plans to get some R&R and hopefully party with a ski bunny or two. The only hitch is that he has a stowaway -the sexy widow of one of his clients. Bailey's husband died and left her with some huge debts due to his shady investors and they are willing to kill anyone close to her to get what is rightfully due to them. As Noah helps her traipse from one incomplete property started by Allan Sinclair to another searching for the loot, the two embark on a passionate affair, much to the consternation of his friends and fellow pilots.

Shalvis combines intrigue, sexy characters, and a plot twist or two to tell a romantic and sensuous story. I particularly liked the camaraderie among the three "Sky High" pilots and look forward to their further adventures.
slow dialogue

The plot appeared interesting, but I found the dialogue too slow. You read what the heroine and hero are thinking and then they say it aloud to each other. And they tend to think the same thoughts again and again and again without adding anything to the plot or character.
Bordering on insanity is their lust. Right in the middle of being chased by thugs with guns, and they're climbing down the fire escape, they still have time to feel each other out and fantasize, really amazing.
What also got tiring was how she kept trying to keep him out of her troubles by running away from him in the middle of being chased. When is she going to get smart enough to realize it's too late to 'keep him out of it' when they both have been id and chased already?? The book does not make her appear smart at all.
Not worth the money

This book is the main reason I hate the $14.00 oversize paperback books. I would have been upset spending $7 on this book. I am now twice as upset that I wasted twice as much money on it.

Bailey is looking for money that her dead husband hid and kidnaps Noah with a Bic pen, who owns his own airline. He helps her find it. They get together. That pretty much sums up the plot.

Her dead husband was a scumbag and (even though she was a model) they had not slept together in years. (Yeah, right.) And Noah, after his last date died while he was flying her somewhere, hasn't slept with anyone is SIX WHOLE MONTHS! He is upset that his vacation to ski and *#@* ski bunnies (his words) was interrupted by Bailey. This made me think he is a dog. I might have given this book 3 stars if this sentiment hadn't been repeated every 5 pages, reminding me of how much I dislike Noah. The story was predictable and unoriginal and there was nothing likeable about the characters. Bailey is a stupid bimbo and Noah is a dog.
Yummy! A great start to this series

Noah Fisher is one of the three pilots and co-owner of Sky High, a fancy, expensive charter airline. Six months ago he piloted a trip that ended badly. Now, on his first flight since that fateful flight, he finds himself highjacked by no other than Bailey Sinclair, the woman he's been fantasizing about for a long time.

Bailey Sinclair is on a mission to find money - a whole pile of money. Her late husband, Alan, swindled a lot of money from some unsavory characters and they expect Bailey to give them the money. The only problem - she doesn't have it and doesn't know where it is. But she believes that the money is in one of the resorts that Alan was developing. The goons who want the money have threatened Bailey - she doesn't have a lot of time, so she needs a way to get to one of Alan's resorts quickly. What better way than to fly?

What follows is Noah and Bailey's odyssey of trying to find the money while the bad guys are hot on their heels - Noah and Bailey try to out maneuver the bad guys while falling in love.

So how is this book different from all of the other books that have some variation of this theme - the heroine in danger and the hero coming to help? Wonderful characters and terrific writing. I loved Noah (and ok, I did like Bailey, but I really loved Noah!). Great secondary characters - I enjoyed reading about the other owners of Sky High (and each pilot will be a book in this series). No, it's not intense and the mystery is light, but Smart and Sexy is a fun read from page one - I couldn't put it down. If you've never read any novels by Jill Shalvis, this is a great book to start...If you're a Jill Shalvis fan like I am, you're really enjoy this book.
