I read some reviews on this one..not all good mind you, but I found this book as with all of Monings books, that I love it! I only wish she had intro'd grimm a little more in Beyond. This is the story of Grimm the Berserker and Jillian his mate. A great read. I just couldnt put this one down either.

An excellent romantic adventure about a strong-headed woman challenging her childhood sweetheart to accept the traumas of his past and reengage with the living. Naturally, it doesn't hurt that he's a mystical Highland Warrior, and she's the wealthy daughter of a Laird...

I could have used a little less "doona" and a bit more proper English, but otherwise not bad for a Highlander romance...it even reverses the trend that all Lowlanders are bad and all Highlanders good by having a noble Lowlander vs. a scoundrelly Highlander in the secondary characters.

Not bad, but not as good as others in the author's Highlander series. Sex was good, as usual, but almost no "paranormal" in the "paranormal romance" this series is known for...

Book Two. No time travel here really. This is legend at its highest tension. This deals with Berserkers. These warriors were considered Odin's army. They were called from darkness to defend their homes. They were monsters when roused. Grimm (who ws in BEYOND THE HIGHLAND MIST) is in reality a Berserker. He is called to Odin when his family and village were destroyed by the enemy when he was 13. he ahs learned to control his beastly nature for the most part. Only a few people know what he is. He has been in love with Jillian all her life. But he fears his beastiality and fears he will hurt her. He was too young to havae the training that would have calmed his fears. What a great adventure story.

This latest book of Karen Marie Monings that I just finished reading might be my favorite so far. But that's hard to say for sure. After I finish reading each of them my heart is always full of what I'd just read and so happy I had the chance to read the story. At this point, this only leaves me with one more story of hers to read from the Highlander series, a short one. It will wait though as another one from another author gets first bids. Hard to always decide. But in this case it has as much to do with my telling the author of a Harlequin book that I'd read it next as it does in needing a time to breathe mentally and emotionally from this one. I love these stories and never want them to end. The characters she creates come to life for me and its with a bit of bitter sweet sadness that I ever finish them. If you get a chance to read this, I highly recommend it!

Grimm Roderick is on the run from his past, he has a dark secret that he want to keep hidden from his friends. Nobody knows that he is really Gavrael Grim MacIllioch, one of the last legendary warriors with supernatural strength. He is a Berserker, one of a long line of warriors whose supernatural strength is a gift of the god Odin.
Grimm has sworn to protect Jillian St. Clair, denying his love for her but always watching over her from a distance. When he suddenly receives a mysterious message from her father saying only “come for Jillian”, Grimm doesn’t hesitate and leave his best friend Lord Hawk and rushes to her.

Jillian St. Clair has sworn never to wed if she cannot have the only man she ever dreamed of….Grimm Roderick. But her father made a plan to see his only daughter happily married, even if that means he has to do everything to made it work. He ask three very attractive highlanders to look after Jillian when he and his wife are visiting their son and grandson.
Quinn, Ramsey and Grimm do not know about the plan the Lord has in store for them, but it becomes clear to them as soon as they arrive in Caithness and that the price will be marrying Jillian.
When Jillian overhear the three of them talking about it, she is furriest, but now Grimm is back she thinks her dreams will come true. Until Grimm tells her he can never marry her and tells her to choose Quinn.

But their love cannot be forsaken and Grimm steals her away, when his rival clan is determined to destroy all of his kind. Will their love be strong enough of will it tear them apart forever ?

Just like the previous book of the highlander series I’m totally hooked up with this story. I was drawn into the story from the first page till the last one.
Jillian and Grimm are made for each other, the attraction between those two people is huge. And when they find out Jillian is Grimm soulmate, the two love ones cannot ignore their feelings any longer and had to give in.

The secondary characters like Quinn, Ramsey, Ronin and Blader were complete and fitted right into the story. And what I really like the most, was to see the characters of the first novel back in this one. I love Hawk and Adrienne.

This was the first of the Highland stories and I really enjoyed it. After reading the others, this would have to be my least favorite of them though.

I love the interaction between the characters in this novel. As always, KMM's leading men are tall and sexy and her female leads are virgins, but this story boasts amusing wordplay and (a problem that is near to my heart) what to do when the man you love sees you as a sisterly figure...or at least when you think that's how he sees you. :)
