Grimm, Hawk Douglas' best friend, receives a summons by his old benefactor to come for the girl he's loved all his life, Jillian. Jillian's father, the laird of Caithness, needs to marry her off but she is entirely too unmanageable and uninterested in men. So, he commands that she must choose from the men he invites to the castle. Besides Grimm, the invitees are Quinn, a noble young man of upright standing and one of Grimm's best friends, and Ramsay Logan, a man who only wants to marry Jillian for her dowry and title. As the plot unveils, we discover that Grimm fled his family and ended up living at Castle Caithness since he was 14-years old. The reasons for his flight are crucial to the plot. Grimm is convinced he's not good enough for Jillian, but the only reason neither of them sought other lovers is because of their love for each other. Intermediate storyline occurs and there's a really good fight scene at the end of the story.
