- Neria: Neria is the main character in the story, the oldest child in the family who takes the role of mother for the rest of the children.
- Thekel: Thekel is the comic relief in the story. He is a member of the team that creates mummies out of the rich members of the community.
- Karu: Karu is Neria's little brother. He is a typical little brother who is always looking out for himself.
- Father: Father is the high priest, and is a well respected man in the community. He presides over the making of the mummies in the "House of Death".
