Read this book first. Grabbed my attention right away. The cops kept overlooking the neighbors in their search for the killer...they were a tad slow on the uptake but finally got it right.

Apparently, Nesbo was inspired by the Martin Beck series. I recommend it to mystery fans

Maj Sjöwall and Per Wahlöö at their best in this page turner of a crime novel.

My infatuation with the Matrin Beck series ... is, well, not over, but through this first stage, as this is the 10th and last in the series ... Thanks to Peter Aldenhoven, who started me on this journey!
The writing style of these novels is lean; spare to the point of being quite brutal, at times, and when the subject matter is as close to the bone as a sex-murderer of little girls, it adds a curious aspect to the novel that is part grimness, and part pathos. That's the focus of "The Man on the Balcony". Beck and his colleagues - an odd assortment - struggle through false (and missed) leads and tiredness to halt a killer who finds his vulnerable victims, over and over again ...

Third in the brilliant Martin Beck decalogue. A murdering paedophile is on the loose. The authors' stark description of the crimes are unnerving and revolting. I also love the way these books are written as books rather than as potential novelisations of films or TV shows.
