Hamlet can't move forward. He's haunted by the past, which keeps him immobile in the present. Meanwhile, Fortinbras is decsively moving onward . . .

    Never tire of this one.

If you're feeling depressed this is not exactly the best book to read, but if not it is a necessity. I loved the rich plot.

I didn't like this too much. I read it in school and found it really hard to understand. And also it's kind of depressing. It's all about death and tragedy, obviously because it is called "The Tragedy of Hamlet."

So Shakespeare is supposed to be some great author, and i'm not saying that he isn't, but i think i'm going to stick to abridged versions and movies.

prince hamlet of denmark is a unhappy man. as he tells it his uncle stole his family's diadem and put it in his pocket. shakespeare writes of a sad heroe who seeks revenge.

Perhaps my favorite story. Few people write tragedy quite as well as Shakespeare. Plus I'm a sucker for happy endings.

Ghosts, madness, thwarted love ... what more could you want? One of my favourite shakespeare plays.

    Title: Hamlet (No Fear Shakespeare)
    Author: Shakespeare, edited by SparkNotes
    Genre: Classic Drama
Reading Experience: Much more simple than the original
    Rating: *** ½

No Fear Shakespeare Hamlet is the side-by-side translation from the original text of Hamlet to a play easier to understand. In this classic, Prince Hamlet sees and hears the ghost of his dead father (when most others do not see him) blaming his death on his brother, Hamlet’s Uncle. He did it for the title “King” and for Queen Gertrude, who is now his wife. Hamlet slowly goes insane and realizes that he has no purpose in life if not to seek revenge for his father’s death. I really like the plot, but I think that even though I couldn’t understand most of the original text that I tried reading, some of the story was lost. The translation was almost too easy to read and wasn’t as poetic as Shakespeare himself. It would make more sense to read this book when you’re capable of understanding Shakespeare’s own words, even though it defeats the purpose. Someone who can also understand the original will only fully get the atmosphere of the play!

I actually didn't like the way this one was written too much. I thought the plot of it, with Hamlet pretending to go mad and then ACTUALLY going mad was pretty good, and with his father's ghost and all of that it pretty much satisfied my thirst for tragedy. But I only found it engaging in parts. Other times, I really wanted to just put it away for another day.
