Simply the most useful and comprehensive Collected Edition available - controversial at time of first publication, however.

This is the best collection of the complete works that I have ever seen. I bought it as a gift for my husband in 1996 and we have loved it ever since.

There are several editions of Shakespeare's complete works available. Each has merit; however, the Riverside edition is the one most worth reading/owning. Riverside bests all other editions including the Yale offering. This is the work to which all other Shakespearean collections should be compared.

He was really good in all his stories! I espeacially love his poem of the phoenix and the turtle. Romeo and Juliet is still my favorite! ***Please Note That You Must Have Exceptionally Excellent Reading Literature Skills***

I suppose I have to give this five stars because of Shakespeare's position in the canon of English literature, but I honestly don't enjoy Shakespeare or get a whole lot out of it. It has nothing to do with a faulty upbringing or subnormal intelligence; I just don't like Shakespeare. Never have. Blasphemy, I know, but there it is.

This will sound cliche, but I want anyone reading this to KNOW that I mean it in the most absolute, surest sense. "If I had to go to a desert island for the rest of my life and if I was only allowed to bring one book there..." it would be this one. Period. All one needs to know about life is in this book. All of the tragedies, all of the humor, heartbreak, guilt, redemption, evil, generosity, tolerance, wisdom - all in one neat volume.

My husband gave me this book when we were dating because he knew I loved Shakespeare. I have it out for decoration and it makes me happy when I look at it. I have not read all of it yet, but hopefully I will one of these days.

Love transcends all boundaries and the language with which that love is populated by Shakespeare is transcendant.

Yes - and I nearly said "of course" - I've read all the wonderful plays by Shakespeare. I'm one of those people who actually like to read plays and I've been through some Goethe and Moliere as well, just for the fun of it.
