    Summary:
This is the story of a young boy's very first flight as told through the boy. It tell severy detail through the travels: what they eat, who they meet, where they go. It brings emotion and is heart-felt (yet comical for adults!).

    Reason I chose this book:
I really enjoyed this book when I read it. It is very well-written and realistic. The language use is powerful, but easily relatable. The script is like a young boy is actually speaking "my mom said...". Students could easily relate because it discusses the joys and fears of a first flight. This book is suitable for all ages, but may need some censoring if used for younger children. It is humorous and includes some 'crude' humor for adults.

    Use in the classroom:
I would use this book in my classroom for a read-aloud and I would suggest it for independent reading. Kids can really relate with the character because he is so real and true childhood fears are discussed. This book would be a great way to lead in to a personal narrative writing. A prompt could be given to the students to account of a profound memory they have: this could be a bad one or a good one, whichever sticks out to them the most. Then, they could write about this memory in such a way that the author, John Travolta does.

I was surprised to find that John Travolta is an author. This book was very short, but cute because it was a tale from his childhood. What I really liked best about it was the fact that he did the illustrations too. They are simple and really cute.

I read this out of curiosity more than anything. Sometimes actors should leave the writing to others...the story is okay, but "a fable for all ages"? Not really. Watch one of his movies instead.
