A haunting story that is going to stick with me much longer than the sparse narative would seem to initially warrant. This book was probably first witten as a rebuke toward some of the more conservative Christian reaction to the abortion debate in the mid-1980s. Now it has very scary...

The book was a scary look at what society can become when people are afraid to question and simply accept what they are told. The establishment of the Gilead government could have been easily stalled in the first few days/weeks but people were willing to sit and watch and see what would happen.

I'm a pretty generous reviewer...but this book was great!! Atwood's ability to keep you guessing and hooked was perfect!

A good read. And I think I read it before. Parts of the book were very familiar and other parts not familiar at all.

Margaret Atwood is an astonishing writer but this title sticks in the memory because of how close our nation keeps veering towards the society it envisions. Despite years of feminist effort, women remain society's chattel or the Stupak amendment would be as unthinkable as cutting off the Viagra supply of rich and powerful men.

If you've read it, read it again and hand it to your daughters. If you haven't read it go buy it now and pay attention!
