I was surprised with this book. Despite the raves, I found it absolutely boring. The first 50 pages was a drag. I gave up on it and read it only because I had nothing to do and was amazed at how his words had captivated me. I usually dont like how it was written, excessively descriptive and narrative. I dont even understand yet, how I came to like it. I guess the best way to enjoy this book is to let go of expectations of it and just enjoy it as it is.

This book is one of a million, I loved it so much! Try his other books too, they are magically written and poetic.

The unconcious has no sense of time.
That's why in dreams we may find ourselves somewhere,
far off in the distant past. However, Garcia Marquez,
keeps Fermina in the middle and balances the stories
of the love of Florentino from the past and Juvenal
later on and it goes on back and forth like a flashback.
Much like the concept of temporal irrelevancy akin to the
dream states. Masterly interweaving of what was and the
unforseeable future makes it an outstanding tale from the
turn of 20th century .It is described as charming by some
and dense by others, but one would do well by the author's
own caution, "you have to be careful not to fall into my trap."

I think it is the most important book among Garcia books
because he didn't write about magic or sickness .....
i love the soup problem ... and alot of marrige details which he taught about it ....

I found this book dragged on a bit, but Marquez has a tendency to be very, very, detailed in his writing. In the end it was worth reading.

The book takes you in and out of many flashbacks. It is so detailed that you feel like you are part of the story. The description is beautiful. I've read Garcia Marqez before, and each time, his stories get more captivating!
